“A Banquet to remember”
Reviewed 11 May 2014

We went on a Saturday evening for a friend's birthday celebration. The menu was specially chosen and I'm sure the chef pulled out all the stops, but it was superb. Amongst the starters the squid was lovely and then a nice watercress based soup. The came lobster on a bed of noodles, followed by steamed sea bass, pork and duck dishes with jasmine rice. The staff were really friendly and helpful, which made for a lovely evening. The restaurant wasn't that busy, but then the High Street didn't seem to be an evening place. There was a steady trickle of takeaway customers in. So I can't speak for the lunchtime buffet, but the chef can cook!

“Inconsistent food, good service though”
Reviewed 22 March 2014 via mobile

Ventured into this restaurant after failing to find anywhere that looked better in the high Street. Afternoon buffet looked good for the price (about £6), but we'd arrived too late for that. we had to pay £13.80, but it meant that we could order as much as we like from the menu, and they cooked it fresh. The choice was good, but the food varied quite a bit in terms of quality, specifically the meat dishes (river and noodles were superb though). Portions were very large too.
Service was polite, welcoming & friendly.
Don't think I'd particularly recommend this place, but I also wouldn't steer people away from it.
If you want an 'all you can eat', and you need it in the high Street, this place is for you.

“Bargain buffet”
Reviewed 26 February 2014 via mobile

The food here was very good & buffet was very cheap. Only complaint was lack of choice. Several desserts available. 1 adult & 1 child (+ fruit shoot) £12 total. Friendly service & plenty of room.

Always septic all about buffets. Checked Trip advisor beforehand and found nothing too scary, so we went for it. Plenty of standard dishes all tasty and looking fresh. Total meal cost £16 for 2 adult and the little man. Bargain.

“Good basic Chinese for all the family”
Reviewed 28 October 2013

I was somewhat concerned when Mao recently re-opened after a refurbishment as that can often mean that the atmosphere and food quality changes as well. I need not have worried for despite the buffet counter being relocated and and the smart new tables and chairs the atmosphere and food is exactly the same.

Although MAO does have a full menu most people come here for the buffet. The dishes are always te same so you know exactly what you are getting. This was just as well today as the dishes had not been labelled this time. The food is basic but very tasty. My only issue is that sometimes dishes are not always replaced that quickly. However past experience has shown that a fresh dish is quickly brought out if staff are made aware the the old one is empty.

The staff are always friendly.
