Stumbled across this lovely restaurant while shopping in Chatham. Despite parents living in the area for 4 years we were not aware of it. Being of turkish descent we were thrilled to find this place as their speciality is pide ("Turkish pizza") and Lachmacun. Anyone who has visited turkey may have tried these delicious "pizza's" - they are a very thin bread base topped with minced meat with herbs and spices and a bit of a speciality. You can't find these in many places, infact used to go to North London just to have them.

We were not dis pointed with our meal. Had the lachmacun which comes with salad and then some humus and grilled helloumi cheese. Meal was served almost immediately. Staff very friendly and nice cosy restaurant - only 5 tables of 4 but thriving take away as well. Took some lachmacun home for the family and will definitely be going back for more! Rest of menu looked lovely too.

We only had 45 minutes to eat. I don't know Chatham so we walked past the usual chain restaurants and fast food outlets and spied Taze. A look in the window revealed lots of people of Turkish origin/decent eating there - a 'good' thing. We both had the 'dish of the day' which could have been Moussaka or a chicken and potato dish. We chose the chicken - it was served very quickly (as we needed) with a basket of flat bread, a big dish of freshly made tzatziki and another of mixed salad. We also had a 'bone' plate. I am happy to eat my meat off the bone and a plate was appreciated.
The brick oven was in full swing and if we had had more time to peruse the menu I expect we would try something baked in that oven - lovely smell of wood smoke.
Our main meal which was more than I could eat, was very good value. With a couple of soft drinks (cans of coke) the bill came to about £16.
The menu was varied with kebabs and pizzas and other speciality dishes available; all the prices very reasonable; the welcome was warm too. Only about 20 covers so worth checking this place out as I'm sure it will grow in popularity.
So why an 'only' average rating? I have said before on TA that there is nothing wrong with being average and Taze Meze is a very good average. I would have preferred the chicken dish to have a more authentic seasoning. I didn't taste Turkey in it. The bread would have been amazing if served warm...small things but I have every intention of going back and trying something else. I might even persuade family to eat there on Sunday...the food coming out of the oven looked delish! Oh, and I loved the light fittings - reminded me of the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul. Do try this informal but authetic resturant.

Cazz my partner stumbled across this GEM at the far end of Chatham High Street one Saturday while out shopping. She even got a PIDE takeaway for two of our friends, they will be visiting after their experience !
Well the following week we both went to sample the delights within.
We both ordered a Pide but different toppings. For those who have never been to Turkey it is dubbed Turkish Pizza, but I do prefer it.
There is a varied menu, visit after twelve o' clock to allow the internal Pide oven to get going!
There is limited space, so go early afternoon, the atmosphere is wonderful people in and out getting take aways, chatting , mixing great. There are Turkish mosaic lights all around Turkish music in the background, I shut my eyes and I felt I had been whisked off to our favourite Pide joint in OLD Fethiye, wonderful. Every time I get homesick for Turkey I will hop on the train to Chatham and relive the experience
