Description: We hope you're feeling hungry... Look forward to robust, fresh flavors served with imagination and flair in east Kent's newest contemporary restaurant. Our Head Chef presides over heavenly menus that change regularly and use locally caught fish and locally sourced produce. The wine, beer and drinks list is also top notch. Old school... New World... Kent wines from Kent vineyards... Local real ales... Great taste is everything at the Marquis.

“Simply delicious”
Reviewed 16 August 2014

Visited this restaurant on a Saturday evening with my 2 girlfriends. The cocktails were of reasonable value as was the food. There were about 5 main courses to choose from on the A La Carte dining menu. I chose Wild Sea Bass, courgette flower with langoustine mousse, squid ink macaroon, avruga caviarcame. It came beautifully presented and the individual tastes on the plate were a lovely combination and simply delicious. The restaurant is a good place to sample unusual dishes and go for a special occassion.

“Atmosphere is a subjective thing”
Reviewed 16 August 2014

Some like it rowdy, sum like a buzz, I like it quiet.
Whatever your prefernece, if the atmosphere is great but the food not so, then the outing is a failure !
We have not been to the Marquis for some years, but needed a special place in the Folkestone area now the Sandbanks has been taken out of play by, I understand, its landlords the local council . I can only guess they want to turn it back into its previous awful guise as a "caff" but that is only hearsay.
However , back to the Marquis.
It was as good as remembered for a midweek lunch.
Service a delight as was the food, our main being local lamb and absolutely first class.
Alkham is a bit off the beaten track but well worthwhile the detuor if in the Folkestone/Dover areas

“Excellent food but atmosphere is lacking”
Reviewed 15 August 2014

We always hope for more here as it's fairly local. The food is first class and probably deserves the prices - definitely more of a special occasion than regular pop-in.
The service was good. It just lacks something that you find in a top class restaurant - there should be a buzz and perhaps it suffers here due to the location. The decor is modern and it should have everything going for it with the quality of the food.
We will be back for the food.

“Yummy lunch”
Reviewed 14 August 2014

We went as a table of six for a celebratory lunch. Some went for the lunchtime menu whilst others plumped for the 4 course tasting menu. The waiters were very helpful and were able to swap a couple of the dishes around according to personal tastes without a fuss. All of the food was beautifully presented and tasted delicious.
We ordered a couple of bottles of wine and after drinking some of the white we decided that it really wasn't to our taste. The waiter was quick to respond to this and sorted the problem quickly giving us an alternative solution.
All in all it was a pleasant and relaxing lunch with well thought out innovative food, well worth a visit.

“Excellent dining at a reasonable price”
Reviewed 3 August 2014

We had dinner there on our wedding anniversary. We both had the £55 six-course tasting menu, but not the accompanying matching wines which we thought were rather expensive (£30 for five 75ml glasses), instead opting for very good and reasonably priced wines by the glass from the standard list. The dining room was modern and comfortable. Most tables were occupied and there was a good ambience. Following excellent complimentary amuse-bouches, our dishes came at just the right pace, were well presented and were all delicious. We were waited on by a variety of staff, some more personable than others. A nice touch was a glass of complimentary sparkling wine from a local vineyard in recognition of our celebration (pity it was dry since it was served with the dessert course!). Altogether an excellent dining experience.
