“Sea View”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 December 2013

We were not expecting much from a quick stopover on our way across the Channel, but the Dover Marina Hotel surpassed our wishes with it overlooking a lovely Beach and Marina.

With a loaded car, we were a little worried about leaving it in the nominated Car Park (free to residents) behind the Wharf Shop (not in site of the Hotel) so we moved it to the metered spaces at the front of the Hotel.

When we checked in we asked for a room overlooking the Sea and they were very happy to accommodate us. Although the room was quite small and a little cold, everything we needed was there and the bed was comfy enough with a nice thick Quilt that ended getting kicked off as the room got warmer.

The Bathroom was a little basic with a Shower in the Bath that constantly varied in temperature.

Too late for Dinner and off before Breakfast so no comments on the food.

Cannot moan about anything, the room was clean and tidy all be it a bit small, staff polite and accommodating, hotel is a bit soulless but you find that with a big chain. Price right and the breakfast was really good,

I'm a big lad, so I generally like thinks big to fit my size. It's in a bangin' location, with it facing the Channel and during my stay which was a beautifully sunny day you can see the coastline of France. On first impressions, it seems rather "upper scale" ie, posh. Warm welcome, beautifully clean room. I wish I had got a room with the sea view and a balcony, ah well! When I am travelling to France, I usually stay at the Premier Inn which is down the road so I thought I would try here.

Food, the let down. It's an Indian restaurant, with hardly any fish on the menu considering we're on the coast and facing France. The food tasted reheated, you know the kind of Indian that you buy on your night out and microwave the next day, yeah that! The bar was bleeding expensive. Other than that the room was perfectly clean, comfortable and was generally nice.

I would recommend that you check out the Table Table down the road, such good food. I would also book directly on the Best Western website, my room was £55.80 as apose to £74 on Booking.

Room Tip: If you can, pay the extra £10/15 for the balcony room. It makes for a perfect night on a summers nig...

We booked a deal direct with the hotel at a great price, the photos on the internet were impressive so we were looking forward to our 2 night break. The hotel looks very grand from the outside and the reception we got on arrival was faultless. We went to our room on the third floor ( 307) and were disappointed, the room was so small I had only 12" down the side of the bed to get in and out, the floor was creaky and really sloping, they even had a card in the room saying if the room was not good enough to contact reception !! We went to reception and were given keys to a family room (317) that was larger but it didnt have a double bed and the outside of the window area was a disgrace. We were then offered room (316) another double room but a seaview. This was a little larger so we accepted but the cheeky hotel asked us for extra payment because it was a seaview. We paid reluctantly as we had no option . We found it difficult to sleep the floors creak that much it sounds as if someone is in the room with you when other guests are walking about. There was a constant hum from outside somewhere. Beds were small, wardrobe door hinges broken, dirty toilet, pillows were squashed hollow fibre and uncomfortable, cheap shower gel in a dispenser, no other toiletries.Heated towel rail rusty and didn't work. WE WOULD NEVER BOOK THIS HOTEL AGAIN

Room Tip: Go to another hotel

We found the staff very helpful. They upgraded our room to a channel view with no problems and answered all our inquiries. We found the hotel quaint and enjoyable. The breakfast room was bright and the food good.
The location allowed us to walk easily from the train station, to sights in the town and then to the ferry. I would recommend this hotel to others.
