We live 130 miles away from this restaurant but we have been to visit 6 times is under 2 years because we love Champion so much. We stumbled across it by accident- it looked empty inside and we did half-wonder if that was a bad sign, however it does have a takeaway section which was constantly busy so we decided to bite the bullet and go in- and are we glad we did!! what a hidden gem! inside is beautifully decorated and the staff are courteous and friendly. the food is simply amazing from sweet and sour chicken balls to champion special chow mein to fried chilli beef in a crispy birds nest, even the rice is beautifully cooked. Also they have a special champion house sweet white wine which is so lovely and goes with any of the dishes. All food is placed on top of these cute little hot plates with tealight candles inside to keep it warm. If you have room after for dessert, you will be pleased with the selection on offer- from lovely toffee pies to refreshing sorbets and ice-creams- most of which are served in carved out coconut shells or oranges which is quite novel. We shared 3 main dishes, rice and prawn crackers between two of us, had a dessert each, had a glass of wine each and 2 shots of sake each- and the grand total came to £40. just £20 each... amazing value. Of course you also get given the customary fortune cookie at the end with your bill and they even get the door for you as you leave. Fantastic- and this is why we will keep returning again and again to this wonderful restaurant- and i have just nominated it for Gordon Ramsays best UK restaurant.
