“Always a pleasure...”
Reviewed 30 March 2014

I had the pleasure of staying at Farthingloe, once again. The hosts are always inviting, and the breakfast is always exactly what I order (and low on the food miles, which is a bonus). The location is ideal, being just out of Dover, and the grounds allow an easy walk up onto the hills over Dover and Folkestone. I will of course be back, I never bother staying anywhere else when heading to Dover, whether for itself, or for travelling to the Continent.

After a grueling crossing on the ferry into Dover it's only a quick trip up Folkestone Road to the huge park-like grounds of the Farthingloe B&B. First impressions are fantastic. Handsome 18th Century house surrounded by mature trees. Travelling alone can be awkward but the hosts immediately put me at ease with a coffee and biscuit in their sitting room. Lovely clean bedroom on the top floor with ensuite. Comfortable bed and surprisingly quiet despite the close proximity of Folkestone Rd. Breakfast in the dining room was superb, no pre-ordering here. I had the full English. Decided to stay 2 nights and after a day trip to Dover Castle, the next evening and breakfast were just as good as the first. Definitely a surprise in Dover.

Great stop before ferry but unfortunately the double bed was in such poorly condition that we sleept terrible. Cozy lighting is not on the agenda, this mansion feels more like a office with its fluorescent lighting. The shared bathroom in the hallway had the most pefetic drizzle of shower. Breakfast feelt like a dry bun from Lidl and our yoghurt was over a month on the expire date. But the land surrounding the house was lovely to walk around.

We stayed only 1 night end of July 2013 before returning to Frankfurt/Main the next day. A pleasant suprise to see a very nice country house in massive grounds. We had booked in advance and stayed in the Canterbury Room. A friendly reception and included "a cuppa" with the owners. The room was large (and compared to our experience of British accomodation over the previous 3 weeks!) had a large ensuite fully fitted bathroom. As we had to leave early the following morning, the owners prepared a picnic snack box to take with us instead of breakfast which at least kept us going while queing for the ferry !
The only negative points we found was that in the Canterbury Room the mattress was extremely soft, which unfortunately didn't give a good nights sleep, there was no Wifi signal or TV in the room nor were there any keys available to lock the room, the same goes for the main entrance door when we were out. Not saying that Kent is full of crooks, but these points should definately be adressed quickly. If fixed, we would further recommend.

Room Tip: Based on some other negative appraisals...request the Canterbury Room with ensuite bathroom !!

Stayed for one night with my other half and my mom.
We were welcomed with tea and coffee and a nice chat.
Had the family room and both rooms were big and nicely done. Everything was clean!
Breakfast was great. Got a full English breakfast as well as cereals, toast, yogurt, fruit, juice.
Would stay again

This is our third visit this year a great place just to get away to peace and quiet
Jane and Derek such lovely hosts nothing is too much trouble
Room lovely comfortable beds and bed made up and lovely fluffy towels. Tea coffee milk always available and I'm sure if I'd needed more of anything if I'd asked it would have been done - I really don't understand some of the comments made
Lovely family home environment and it feels like a home as it is Jane and Derek's it's so nice to home to a bed and breakfast and the hosts are happy to chat and welcome you
Thank you so much - I know we'll be back
