We found this B&B on the Internet for a short stay during the summer. It is very centrally located,
easy walking distance to the castle. The room we had was a little on the small side, but excellent value and had a private entrance onto the back garden. Breakfast served in the bedroom was a little unusual at first, but made for intimate family mornings. The owner was very helpful and directed us to an excellent local pub.

We stayed at Number One Guest House in mid-August 2013 for 2 nights. We found the proprietors to be friendly and helpful, providing us with directions, recommendations for places to eat, information about the history of Dover. The landlord even gave us a lift up the road to the castle. The breakfasts were tasty and accommodated a vegetarian diet. It was nice having breakfast served in our room, but I also like eating in a dining room so I can chat with other guests. Breakfast was served between 7:30 and 9:00 am and guests need to reserve a time to be served. On our first morning I would have preferred an even later breakfast time, like 10:00, as we were quite exhausted from our travelling and would have loved to have slept in. Our room had a private entrance with access to the lovely back garden. The room itself could have used a luggage rack to put a suitcase on. The bathroom and shower were quite small, but we expected that. More towel racks as well as better towels would have been welcome additions. I recommend new, 100% cotton towels with facecloths. I rated this B&B at 3/5, but our experience was more like a 3.5/5, almost a 4!

Stopped here on the way and back to Euro Disney, Margaret made us feel so welcome and took a shine to our grandkids as they did the same to her lovely little walled garden for them to play in, breakfast served in rooms made it feel special, made use of the secure garage parking they offer as it gives peace of mind and would definitely return

Very nice B&B, pleasant owner.
The house is charming, both inside and out, Listed building.
Breakfast was nice - no porridge but tradition English breakfast and some good vegetarian options.

We stayed for one night after returning from the continent.
Very nice overall.

One caveat - Some reviews mention a damp or cold room.
They are referring to room number 5. Owner acknowledged that this room is in the back, lower level and doesn't get much sun. Consequently it is considerably colder than the other rooms, and the cold can feel like damp. It also has 3 beds (a double and 2 twins), which is kind of weird, and made it feel cramped.

To do it again I would have asked for a different room, but they were all booked up.
If you do get room 5, and if it is cold, don't hesitate to ask Margaret to turn on the central heating, even if it is summer time. She won't mind and you'll sleep much better.

After touring the UK for 3 months, I can honestly say that we have voted this as being the best B&B that we stayed in. (And we stayed in quite a few) We stayed for 3 nights. It was clean and comfortable and had the most wonderful olde worldy charm about it. I loved the gorgeous breakfast area of our room with the bay window and magnificaent garden view. Margaret was a fantastic host and was accommodating in every way. There was nothing lacking at this B&B. The rates, location, guidance and presentation of the guest house made for an extremely wonderful stay. Beautiful gardens and private entrance. Look no further if you would like to stay in Dover. this is the must stay place. Thank you Margaret and John

Excellent service, a truly lovely garden, own entrance, comfortable bed... what more could we ask for? We spent a single night in Dover to explore the town, the cliffs and the castle and this was a perfect spot which ticked all our boxes.

Wouldn't hesitate to recommend it!

Margaret and John are the most welcoming couple ever. Our stay (along with another couple) was for only one night on 3 May prior to going over on the ferry. We first stayed there 20 years ago when John's mother was running it. I was so pleased that this delightful B&B had not changed. Everything is provided - much the same as a 4 star hotel. This is a perfect place to stay in Dover and gets away from the 'samey' franchise hotels in the area. Plenty of parking and near to the city centre, this is just a wonderful place to stay. Cannot wait for a return trip.

Room Tip: All rooms are excellent
