“Great Hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 January 2009

A wonderfully quirky hotel - superb views over harbour. The room was very clean - it was the little touches that made it a fab stay- a hot water bottle in the bed on one of the coldest nights of the year and complimentary cheese and biscuits during late evening .The honesty bar was fully stocked and very reasonable.
We were the only 2 people there but we did not feel short changed and the breakfast that was laid out just for the 2 of us was fantastic from fresh fuit to full English.
Real fires, good food, comfy beds and good hosts - what more can you ask.!

  • Liked — the quirkiness
  • Disliked — the room was a little cramped for a long stay

Wanted to stay for a weekend break from the kids - to have a nice quiet meal and an uninterrupted nights sleep.
Hotel was everything we expected and more. Helpful staff - the little touches were great as well - after we came back from dinner we spent the evening in front of a log fire playing cards etc and listening to elvis and enjoying the cheese and wine.- maybe not everyione's cup of tea but was just what we needed.
A nice lie in the next day and an excellent breakfast - honey still on the honeycombe, and no rush to do anything.
We hope tor return here again.

We stopped over at the Royal Harbour Hotel for the night before catching the early ferry to Oostende the next day. The check-in was very easy and the gentlemen helping us and showing us the room were very pleasant. Since we had to leave very early in the morning they packed a lovely little lunches for us to eat on the ferry. The hotel is old and you can feel the character in it, we had the top floor family room overlooking the neighbours which it was nicely decorated. One thing I noticed that the room was sloped and the floor wasn't exactly flat but I guess that's what you get with an old house. The room for my husband (big, tall guy he is) was too small for him along with the bathroom, we also thought the telly screen was a bit small also. The room was very cold and they did bring a portable heater for us while we were out for a bite. All in all I would recommend this hotel for someone who wanted to be on the marina and the centre of town. I enjoyed it myself and our daughter loved being way up high overlooking the town. Price was good, I wish we could get one of their hot breakfasts next time.

  • Liked — The character of the hotel & decor is lovely, the staff; helpful ,the location; great! Price; decent.
  • Disliked — Little small on the rooms & bathrooms. need slightly bigger telly and at least Freeview.

I have been in Ramsgate several times this year on business. Each time I have stayed at the Royal Harbour.

Its location cannot be beat, the breakfasts are oustanding, the rooms (and especially the bathrooms) are extremely clean, the staff are attentive and responsive, and for the price I can't imagine there is anything better.

I love the views from the upper storey, front-side rooms, as the building sits right on the harbour, overlooking the marina (and France, across the channel, on a clear day.) With Ramsgate's restaurants, bars, and shopping just steps away, the location is perfect.

Inside, there are four floors populated with interesting furniture and well-stocked bookshelves around every corner. Downstairs, the parlor is warm and inviting, and there is almost always a fire burning in the evenings.

James Thomas, the proprietor, has decorated the place with a wonderful collection of original art and comfortable furniture. And there are some surprising touches, for example the turntable and assortment of LPs in the sittting room. (So you can break out the Pink Floyd when you return late on a Saturday night.)

My only complaint is that some of the rooms (and bathrooms) are rather tight, so if you crave space be sure to discuss this when you make your reservation. As with any issue I had while staying here, James or Richard or Phillippe are responsive and have always been able to sort things out for me.

The Royal Harbour hotel is charming and the effort the owners put into it is obvious. Extremely welcoming, cosy with real personality, staying there was a real treat. Great breakfast and the cheese board in the evening for guests to help themselves to was a lovely touch. We're looking forward to returning.

Arrived at this hotel hoping to book in for one night during a short break in Kent. However, as our car broke down in the street right outside the hotel, fate and the extremely helpful hotel staff / owners meant we had to stay for 3 nights until we could be towed home on the Monday morning!

All I can say is that if we had to break down anywhere, we were extremely fortunate to break down outside this amazing little hotel!

It is by far the best B&B we have ever stayed in (and there have been many over the years!) - the whole place was full of stunningly beautiful artwork, even in the bedrooms.

Yes, our cabin room was tiny, but who does anything other than lay on the bed and read or watch TV anyway when in a hotel room?
The views from the window of the harbour were beautiful and the bed was so comfortable that it just didn't matter that the room was small - we had chosen the cheapest room after all!

Upon hearing our dilemma with the car - we had checked in for 1 night, then had to ask if we could stay for 3 due to the car problem - the owner offered us a complimentary upgrade to a bigger room on the Sunday night.
However, when it came to it, we decided to stay put as the bed was so comfortable and the room so cosy, we saw no reason to change it!

It was the little things that made this hotel special - the complimentary bottled water in the rooms, luxury biscuits and toiletries and the fact there was loads of milk, not just the usual 3 or 4 (which is never enough for me!)
Everywhere is spotlessly clean and everyone extremely friendly and helpful (especially the French man - sorry, I never knew his name)

And the breakfast was superb - so much variety on the cold buffet and the hot food cooked to order. I am a very fussy eater and never, ever have a cooked breakfast in a hotel, however, after seeing how nice it looked the first morning, I found myself ordering the full works on the other 2 days and that is unheard of for me!

All in all a very pleasant stay and I would have no hesitation in staying at the Royal Harbour again or recommending it to my friends.
Many thanks for a lovely weekend (except for the car of course - although the AA got to us in 6 mins - well done to them too!)

We have recently returned from a fantastic break at The Royal Harbour Hotel, the best hotel we have ever visited in the UK or Europe!
A beautiful building over looking the harbour, with beautiful decor and atmosphere throughout.
On arrival we were given a guided tour of the hotel and all facilities in and surrounding the hotelwere explained, we immediately felt welcome and 'at home'.
The room we had booked was in fact a twin room, and without question the owner immediately offered to up grade us to a harbour view room with balcony and four poster bed, at no additional cost.
All aspects of the room were excellent, lots of storage space, most efficient en suite bath room, lots of plug sockets, tv, dvd player and more than enough refreshments.
Walking out of the hotel in the evening there are 2 local pubs, The Churchill has amazing food deals, and the Foy Boat with real ales and welcoming staff and customers.
On return each evening we were welcomed with a delicious complementary supper of a vast selection of cheese, biscuits, pate, and sweet treats, each evening happily spent on our balcony looking at the harbour sipping wine and enjoying supper!
The location is ideal for exploring the area either on foot , by local bus, or by car.
We enjoyed a coastal walk to Broadstairs, a lovely typical seaside resort,on our walk we discovered a small cove,Dumpton Gap a must for sun worshippers and those wanting a good mug of coffee and watching the world go by!
Breakfast each day was the best ever, cereals, a range of bread, yoghurt,a whole smoked ham, cheeses, smoked salmon and a whole honeycomb, then cooked breakfast of our choice made to order.
Value for money the hotel is the best we have ever known, we will certainly return and would recommend the hotel to all.
Many thanks to all staff at the hotel for making our visit so perfect!
