“Excellent place to stay”
Reviewed 19 August 2010

The Royal Harbour was very welcoming and comfortable. Those responsible for running the establishment give a warm greeting and introduce the facilities in an informed way. We were grateful to Richard and David for the warmth of their welcome. The views from the rooms with a harbour view are extremely good. As has been mentioned, the breakfast is first class and the providing a cheese board as a late night treat was welcome. The many pictures in the hotel add to the ambience as do the many other interesting artefacts in the residents' sitting room. There are good restaurants near to hand and the harbour area is attractive. The Port and Anchor is good for a real ale pint. The walks on the East and West Cliff offer up great views. The hinterland of Ramsgate and the shopping streets are now distressed. It would be great to see the town return to its former state.

Not great place to stay! They had a small nice lobby area, but only room for about 5 people to sit in one room. Actual hotel room was tiny! Smaller than my Uni dorm room- couldn;t fit on one side of the bed, and i am a small person! The sheets were dirts, and the bed is a thin spring mattress on a piece of plywood! Not a pleasant sleep and woke up with a really stiff neck and back. Bathroom was moldy and everytime another toilet flushed, the shower- which had no pressure- was calding hot! Thought a nice cup of tea would be good, until i looked in the Kettle, and it was also molded! Gross.

Stayed at the hotel last night. At £98 a night the standard rate is expensive but the reviews were good so I gave it a try.

It's a delightful hotel, packed with character. I was in one of the single cabin rooms on the top floor. Very compact room but it was spot on.

Breakfast was an expertly cooked full English. Couldn't have cooked it better myself; absolutely delicious and set me up for the rest of the day.

All staff I spoke to were attentive, so the service was good.

If I return to Ramsgate I would definitely choose to stay here again; though booking in advance and getting the more sensible advance rate.

In summary, if you want a nice cosy hotel : stay here.

My husband and I stayed in the downstairs disabled room while visiting family and could not have been more pleased with our accomadation. The room was spotlessly clean and spacious with constant hot water. There was a generous supply of tea and coffeee etc. which , along with biscuits, was replenished daily. The staff were all extremely pleasant and could not have been more helpful. Extra little touches like the continuous supply of bottled water and the supply of complimentary cheese and crackers made us feel like we were really being looked after. We don't eat breakfast but judging by the appetising smells emanating from the kitchen we may have to start eating breakfast the next time we stay! The hotel is beautifully positioned and we intend to return very soon. Thank you to all the staff.

its almost exactly a year since we visited the Royal Harbour Hotel, this time with a group of friends for a wedding celebration. We booked room 4 again - slightly surprised to find it is now £238 vat inc per night but hey we liked it last time. and we like it this time, its a lovely room and all the things you need for a happy stay are in it !! -- We left the colleagues to book their own rooms, most of them had to be changed,we got to see the smaller rooms both front and back and frankly I'm surprised at the prices, £95.00 in one case for a room which had a bad fly problem and was so small there was no room for anything apart from a double bed !
other members of our party booked a family room which they were not happy with and ended with two rooms and their daughters sleeping in a single head to toe !
We like the Royal Harbour, the ambience and breakfasts are lovely and David is thoroughly nice and good at what he does, they allowed us early check in etc etc we shall stay again but room 4 is the only room I would consider having now see a lot of the others, this is a boutique type hotel, it really needs to spend some money upgradng smaller rooms by perhaps knocking them into each other,
small things like bedside lights not working and bad plumbing dont help. Our friends were stoical it was only one night and we all left in good spirits, but as a business woman I can t help wondering why private hoteliers dont spend time in their own rooms and try to see things from a client point of view. A view is a bonus but a room too small to swing a cat in doesnt mean you can charge an extra wallop for the view.

David Dray gave service over and above in trying to find us a hotel for the night when we had been double booked. Unfortunately all hotels in Ramsgate were full so had to travel to Gravesend for the night. He was able to provide 2 ensuite rooms for the following two nights. The hotel deserved more than its 3 star rating as the accommodation and public areas were all of the highest standard. The harbour view was wonderful but the port is very busy with passenger ferries at regular intervals - ending and beginning late/early so it was not a quiet nights sleep, but I suppose you could request a room at the back. As it is a characterful Regency building with no lift the stairs are not for the infirm or faint hearted. However they were worth the fitness rating for all the other qualities of cleanliness and good service. My daughter and I would give it a 'highly recommended'.

Stayed one night in a "cabin double" - the room is small but totally fine for the two of us! bed was comfy and had nice amenities - hot pot with biscuits and coffee, tiny shower, flat tv and shampoo. our view of the marina was wonderful!
The comon areas are fabulous! feels like you are in a friend's livingroom - so comfy and welcoming. tons of books and magazines to read. Honour bar is brilliant and cheap! £2.25 for a glass of decent wine. The service is good and they helped us with dinner ideas. Breakfast was great! Something for everyone from a full english to smoked salmon with rye bread to fat-free yoghurt and fruit. We could even park our bikes in the back and not worry. The only downside is that in the evening the town gets a bit rough with lots of young people out drinking and looking for trouble - but the hotel is located far from any of that and totally out of ear shot. I would say this place would be brilliant in the summer or winter (with its cozy fire place) I cant wait to go back!
