Hotel du Vin Tunbridge Wells is set in one of the historic spa town's architectural landmarks, a Grade II-listed sandstone mansion built as a private residence in 1762. We stayed in one of the Bridal suites atop a hill overlooking and beautiful park and the entire town. It was breathtaking :)

We chose the Hotel Du Vin because it's in my hometown, and also because we loved the decor. It's all huge mirrors, candles stuck in old bottles of wine, dark wood floors and tasteful furnishings- lovely. The staff were so, so helpful in our wedding preperations; endless emails went back and forth about the tiniest thing and they couldn't have been nicer. On the night before we checked in and our room was one of the finest we've ever stayed in- and we're serious 5 star snobs. The bed was massive, the furnishings sexy and sumptuous, and the bathroom (with chaise longue!) was fantastic.

On the morning of the wedding, everything went smoothly- they took care of everything, sending up our flowers, photographer etc, and moved all our bags to the honeymoon suite. They had made the room look stunning, and as we walked out after the ceremony there was the manager with two glasses of champagne for me and my hubby! They had set up in the garden with a table of champers and orange juice, and we literally didn't have to think about a single thing.

The meal was excellent, and service was attentive but not overly so. They turned the room around afterwards into our disco venue, and our guests either chilled in the pretty garden or had a dance. The honeymoon suite was lovely- humungous bed, soft bathrobes, lovely toiletries and goodness knows what else.

Checkout and payment was easy considering it was our wedding we were paying for! Plus, they'd kept all our wedding flowers and candles and after helping us load up our car with them they gave the rest to our guests and local resthomes.

Even if you are just staying overnight here, I'd hugely suggest you choose this hotel Its wonderful. Classy, unpretentious, posh but no snobbishness- just lovely.

Stayed 2 nights, weekend before Christmas when the whole of the South East was snowed in. We took the Hush Heath suite and the Wolf Blass. Both beautiful, relaxing and quality accommodation. Comfy beds, power showers, silent, central location. Food in the bistro excellent quality. Stay was a present to my 81 year old father for looking after my mother with alzheimers, They drove 6 hours in the snow to get there. The staff were magnificent with them, taking them breakfast in their room as they would never be dressed and ready for breakfast in time, reserving parking next to the entrance etc and I'm sure they were understaffed with the snow situation but friendly service was always maintained. I've read negative comments about 'snooty' staff at this hotel and have experienced it at the hotel in the past but they have obviously read the comments and removed those at fault because all staff are friendly and welcoming now. There's lots of attention to detail, quality and comfort, perfect place to be snowed in as we were.

Stayed with friends to celebrate a birthday party for partner. Private function room for dining booked - menu not released until 2 hours before supper - very unimaginative with limited choices. Had terrible trouble in the organisation as the front desk is hopelessly managed - severe staff shortages meant phone kept tripping through to accounts department - expect much more for the price.
On arrival, staff were extremely helpful, particularly our waiter for the night.
Not sure if I could be bothered with the hassle prior to arrival to go again.

I stayed at the hotel as part of a wedding party, that also had the celebration in one of the function rooms.

The atmosphere, food, staff and rooms were exceptional quality, although a little small - which, considering the age of the building, isn't the hotel's fault. The beds were amazing and the showers are something in themselves, I'd go back just for the water pressure.

It is expensive though, I think there might be better value elsewhere in the town.

Service was excellent and we were upgraded to a superior room despite booking a cheap promotion for Dinner, Bed & Breakfast. A bargain if you can get it at the right price.

This was our fourth or fifth stay at this hotel and our least enjoyable. Partly due to the room and partly the price for value. First, the room, called “Chapel Down”. Well appointed like all HdV’s but the bathroom fell down badly. Yes, it has the monsoon shower but the bathroom mirror was almost unusable. It’s set back well over four feet from the closest standing position and is almost five feet off the floor. Bad enough for me at over six feet tall but my wife is not as tall and found it unusable. For her the lighting at the only other mirror in the room wasn’t good for makeup and hair.

Unlike other rooms at this hotel, I found the mattress quite uncomfortable. It’s a king made up of two twins with the inevitable gap in the middle. I think other rooms have a down topper on the mattress. This one certainly didn’t and was hard and thin.

Since we weren’t thrilled with the room I started thinking about price. These are probably the most expensive rooms in the area; Hotel du Vin positions themselves as the premium property in town but the wifi’s no longer free, breakfast is not included and is over-priced. Maybe if we’d paid even more to upgrade to a “better” room we’d have had a better experience but I expect more for this rate. Alternatives have opened in the past couple of years. We’ll try one on our next visit.
