Firstly, do not go here if you have minimalist/modernist tendancies. The house is just stuffed with brilliant Victoriana and authentic period decor, even the ceilings have Pugin-designed wallpaper. Lots of lovely antique furniture, but not at all in a museum sense, it is all to be sat on and used. Marvellous wallpaper and mirrors especially. Harold is the perfect host, his afternoon tea and English breakfast are wonderful. He is almost waiting behind the front door to make sure you are back safely each evening. Spotless modern shower room and strong WiFi signal, but no TV (quite a shock, but actually a relief from Christmas adverts and depressing news).
Good location for numerous National Trust houses and gardens (we could not fit them all into our short break) also steam railway. Town a little disappointing until you press on into the older part. Easy to find, and plenty of parking. Thank you Harold for a lovely stay! Thoroughly recommended by the 'Inspector'!
