“Wonderful treat!”
Reviewed 24 October 2012

Firstly, do not go here if you have minimalist/modernist tendancies. The house is just stuffed with brilliant Victoriana and authentic period decor, even the ceilings have Pugin-designed wallpaper. Lots of lovely antique furniture, but not at all in a museum sense, it is all to be sat on and used. Marvellous wallpaper and mirrors especially. Harold is the perfect host, his afternoon tea and English breakfast are wonderful. He is almost waiting behind the front door to make sure you are back safely each evening. Spotless modern shower room and strong WiFi signal, but no TV (quite a shock, but actually a relief from Christmas adverts and depressing news).

Good location for numerous National Trust houses and gardens (we could not fit them all into our short break) also steam railway. Town a little disappointing until you press on into the older part. Easy to find, and plenty of parking. Thank you Harold for a lovely stay! Thoroughly recommended by the 'Inspector'!

Room Tip: All rooms are different and Harold is still decorating. Had the large double at the front, surprisin...

Stayed at this b&b for one night. Had read the reviews but nothing prepares you for the Victoriana inside the house! We had tea and delicious Victoria sponge freshly baked by Harold and were astounded by the number of pictures of Queen Victoria and her descendants which surrounded us. Harold has lovingly restored the house over the years and it has clearly been a labour of love. Our bedroom on the ground floor overlooked the beautiful garden. The bed was very comfortable with top quality bed linen and we were amazed at how quiet the house was. Breakfast was fantastic from the freshly squeezed orange juice to the warm croissants and of course the full English cooked to perfection by Harold. A wonderful place to stay in Tunbridge Wells.

we travelled to tunbridge wells from australia to attend a family wedding. we stayed for one week with harold in his amazing house and when it was time to depart it felt we were leaving a friend.
the house is incredible and so is harold's attention to detail.
tea and cake in the gorgeous gardens, the most comfortable beds and sumptious breakfasts. this b + b was much more than we hoped for. we plan to go back !

We were blown away by this house and the scale of the renovation that the owner, Harold, has undertaken over the last 8 years. The whole experience felt as though we were staying with a friend, enhanced by the fact that we were invited to have tea and cake with Harold and two of his own friends who were visiting from Australia. This was a lovely touch and made us feel very welcome. Our bedroom was lovely and very comfortable, it overlooked the rear garden and was peaceful and quiet. Breakfast was an experience in itself! Harold brought everything to the dining room and then the 2 of us were left alone in the room to enjoy the tasty food. It felt like eating breakfast in a National Trust property! Fabulous and very decadent! Harold also went out of his way to serve us afternoon tea when we arrived back from sightseeing each day. Loose leaf tea and fine bone china, together with homemade cake (different each day, including Victoria sponge with fresh cream and strawberries and lemon drizzle cake)! Absolutely fabulous experience in every way.

We were a party of five and when we checked in were treated to afternoon tea (part of the rate) in the drawing room with a real fire. The tea was served in traditional style, bone china, silver and even cloth napkins. A Victoria sandwich cake with real strawberries too! Delightful.

Everything worked well and was very comfortable with everything you needed. Harold even ironed a shirt for us. Harold was a butler and it showed, we were treated to a weekend of experiencing and enjoying how the 'other half live'.

I would highly recommend this B&B especially if you are a group of friends. Breakfast in the dining room was wonderful and we could choose our time and were not rushed on.

Highly recommended for a delightful experience.

Last November we stayed for two nights at this very special B&B. I had come across it on the internet and with the website already looking amazing, it was even better in reality. Harold is the perfect host and the house absolutely marvellous in all it's Victorian glory. Still a work in progress it will be even better when the upstairs rooms are finished and you can stay with a group of friends or family and enjoy dinnerparties in the frontroom. Harold is a good cook who served us the nonfattest full English ever and I also don't want to let his Victorian sponge go unnoticed.
