We were staying near to RTW for New Year's and went to The Pantiles on the one day of the week that it stopped raining. We visited the Duke of York just for a restorative drink in the afternoon - a handwritten sign regretted that their kitchen was not open on that day, but that was OK with us.
It's a charming old pub that has probably changed little over the years and it certainly hasn't been extensively redecorated since the smoking ban was introduced. Anyone familiar with an Amsterdam "coffee shop" will recognise the colour of the ceiling, but this just feels appropriate somehow and makes a change from the anodyne decor of some modern pubs.
Comfy seating, friendly and helpful staff, a good selection of beers and some excellent background music (early Bowie) - I could have happily stayed put for the rest of the day!
