“Excellent good value stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 July 2013

We have stayed in many hotels many times in Tunbridge Wells including the Smart and Simple, the travelodge, the Camden arms to name a few and I think I'll always return to this one.
The price we paid on an online hotel reservation site was more than adequate, in fact it was coming out £9 more than the travelodge so we booked.
Parking in easy if you're not worried about street parking although the hotel did have two spaces.
The hotel and its rooms had a boutique feel with each one being different. As it was my partners birthday we got given the honeymoon suite which was a lovely surprise. It was a lovely large garden view room with an amazing bathroom with underfloor blue lights and a massive rain shower and huge bath. Very trendy. We have stayed before and not all the rooms are the same, last time we stayed in a much smaller room which only had a shower but this was perfectly fine.
The secret garden was a lovely place to sit and have a drink. We didn't eat in as we had reservations in town but there are so many bars and restaurants within walking distance.
Will stay again next time we are visiting! Thank you to the friendly staff for accommodating us!

Stayed here for one night for a friends wedding. Literally only used the room to change and then pass out in, however I was very disappointed with the room. Whilst the room was a good size, the maintenance of the room left much to be desired. There were marks smeared all up and down the walls (one example, it looked like Coffee had been spilt on the walls with no attempt to clear it up - you could still see the splatter marks! and many various other spillages) we were in the basement which seemed as though the the hallway here was used as the cleaners storage and we had a very nice view of a wall a foot from our window. The whole place just felt dirty. On the plus side the beds were comfortable. The staff in the hotel were friendly although they seemed to be covering a variety of different roles so it was hard to catch them to ask them questions. Breakfast was organised chaos and the only breakfast that was included in the price was continental (which looked very measley), not acceptable for the price of the room - and it took us 10 minutes to get someones attention to find that out. We ended up not bothering and leaving unfed. To be fair, we did not complain at all to them on the day, however we were looking for somewhere nice to rest our heads after coming in from a wedding, with little time to complain and for the price tag we certainly not impressed. Would much rather have booked the travelodge for a lot less and probably got better standards.

Was booked into this hotel by another Company upon their recommendation. Pleased with the choice. It was clean and comfortable and very convenient for the High St and Pantiles. Parking is very limited but OK for a quick overnight stay. Breakfast was excellent and freshly cooked. Room was comfortable, bathroom looking slightly dated. Bar is small but adequate and closed fairly early. Staff were mixed some very good, others a bit grumpy! Attractive garden at rear of hotel with nice aspect from Dining Room.

Smart & Simple is a well run hotel, conveniently placed close to the town centre and railway station. The room I had was spacious, clean, comfortable bed, nice towels lovely shower. The downsides included noise coming up though the floor from the bar area and the busy main road outside. My colleague had a much smaller room with a faulty shower and also had problems with the wifi. The TV only had 5 terrestrial channels - a small detail - apart from that I was quite happy and would stay here again.

Room Tip: Probably best to get a room at the back

looked at so many hotels online in T Wells. Decided on this one based on reviews. Arrived 2 hours before check in - room was ready. Clean and we had a huge bath and shower. Would have been quite happy to stay in room all weekend. Easy walking distance to both parts of the town. Breakfast was included - Continental - was ok. We could have paid for cooked but decided against. Emailed hotel before stay with special requirements and they were met. Staff lovely. More than happy to extend check out til 12 if you ask. We will definitely return. Ps beds have lovely crisp white sheets :-)

My girlfriend and I stayed here for just 1 night as a stop over for a friend's wedding.

The hotel staff were very helpful, courteous and friendly. We arrived at 10.30am looking for an outside chance of a cheeky early check in. We knew this was very early and a very slim chance, but thankfully, the team there had already managed to turn the room around ready for our arrival which we were really chuffed with.

The room (14) itself was bright and airy, nice high ceilings and stylishly but simply decorated. Opening the door to the bathroom was like opening the wardrobe door to Narnia.. the bathroom was absolutely enormous. A very nice free standing bath, and a nice shower with a choice of standard or monsoon shower heads, again, this room was stylishly finished, bright, airy and clean.

For the price we paid, the room was very impressive, add to that the helpful and friendly staff, this is a place I wouldn't hesitate to book again.

Only slight minuses were:

The water pressure in the shower, which was pretty weak.
The availability of convenient parking. There is an unrestricted road perpendicular to the road that the hotel is on, but it can be busy, and you may well have a little walk with your bags to the hotel if you're unlucky.
