We popped to skidby windmill to make the most of the nice weather on mothers day. We thought the museum would be small and might only keep the kids (aged 3 and 6) busy for a short while. We actually managed to spend an hour looking round. There were lots of little things to keep the children busy and that gave us time to read all the interesting information. Both members of staff we met were lovely and happy to share their knowledge with us. The outside space is lovely too with a great playground and green space to run around (and in our case eat a picnic!). There is also a cafe which was clearly popular but we didn't visit it on this trip. The entrance fee is an absolute bargain and we will definitely visit again over the summer to try out the wildlife explorer packs and hopefully see the sails turning.

We were doing a short hike around Risby Park and Skidby village and passed this mill on our walk and decided to visit. It has toilets, cafe, a museum and the mill itself. As it was Monday the cafe wasn't open but the mill and museum is delightful. It is a four-sailed tower mill and was built in 1821. As well as the mill there is the East Riding Museum of rural life which is very informative about the mill and its workings and rural life in the Yorkshire Wolds in years gone by. The member of staff is passionate about the mill and is a mine of information. It is well worth a visit if you are in the area.
