On weekend in September 2013, my partner and I were booked into the Pearson Park Hotel. Despite receiving a booking confirmation, the hotel refused to honour the booking. They claimed to have attempted to contact us, but there were no answerphone messages and we received no emails. They were subsequently very dismissive about any obligation to rectify the situation.

I would recommend that you do not book with this hotel as you may be left without a bed for the night as we were! We had to abandon our plans and return home.

continued from our previous review about our wedding at this hotel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The chef put out our evening buffet, took the wedding cake to cut and box(which never returned) and left.At this point we realised there was only 2 young bar staff on duty to run the bar and the hotel so no-one was available to clear the tables and no-one to approach as all the management had left for the night ( 9.30 pm) Things went down hill big style from here .James (The very rude owner/manager) was sat at the bar drinking with his friends and off duty staff. After some discussion they eventually agreed to clear the tables, this lead to them being abusive to our guests and dropping dirty dishes and breaking glasses.James at this point was overheard by the bride and her son saying "what the f*****k do they expect" Well to be honest we didnt expect the Ritz, but what we did expect was politeness, manners and a hotel management team who didnt take the money and run!!!! We have since contacted the team at Pearson Park, who have refused to discuss any part of this or even offer any form of apology,in their words "we get some things wrong and learn for the next time" TAKE OUR ADVICE....THEY DONT !!! Some of the staff were very good and helpful and we did thank them personally. It will be very interesting to hear any response they put on trip advisor as they refuse to discuss it with us.TAKE SOME ADVICE...READ ALL THE REVIEWS AND BELIEVE THE BAD ONES AS WE DONT BELIEVE THINGS WILL CHANGE....YOU ONLY HAVE ONE WEDDING DAY ...GO TO ANOTHER VENUE OR BE VERY VERY AWARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Room Tip: bridal suite room 12 nice

After many meetings about our wedding function with 3 different members of staff over an 8 month period,we thought we had all our problems ironed out ....how wrong we were.
We decorated the hotel inside and out ourselves otherwise we would of been married in front of a paper table cloth stapled to the wall, peeling wallpaper and bare wires. The entrance was decorated for the brides entrance but she never saw this as the owner had her enter by a side door, any future bride...BE AWARE !!!
Decided on afternoon tea for our reception...easy we thought..WRONG AGAIN..we had to bake fruit loaves and provide shortbreads etc, chefs idea of cupcakes ....shop bought sponge buns with glase icing on top.Again we had to decorate the tables or it would of been a run of the mill flat table buffet. The bar started to run out of beer at 12 noon (we got married at 3.30) this continued through to the evening reception where the bar was out of bitter, guiness and cider by 8.30pm with over 100 guests wondering what to drink (POOR BAR MANAGEMENT).
Evening buffet was hot and cold we were assured HOT buffet was luke warm ,cold buffet was cheap quality ingredients (smart price ).All our food prices were arranged and confirmed by the hotel, please be advised we did not take the cheap option. If you are thinking of having ANY functions here DEMAND SAMPLES before you book or pay any money and take photos, dont get caught out like we did and dont think they will honour all they confirm.
We will continue this on BE VERY AWARE PART 2 as weve run out of space !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Stayed there for one night, would I go back, I doubt it.

The room was cold on arrival and not aired... Shabby towels and the shower that was a trickle... It Would of been better using a hosepipe ... There would of been more power of water than the thing they called a shower

There was no ambience, no welcoming from staff, I have stayed in many hotels and always pay at the end of my stay so when asked for payment before we had seen the room had "alarm bells" ringing

The bed however was very comfortable and a nice surprise

Decided to skip breakfast even though we had paid for it and ate at a well known cafe instead... The feeling of the hotel was such that I could not face eating there too

Sadly the building is in need of a make over... I am sure it was amazing in its time but not now

Location good for the avenues and beautiful park, sadly I won't be back

My wife and I stayed at this hotel and from the minute we arrived you could not ask for better customer care, no matter how little or small the request it was carried out to the highest of standards, (keep up the good work ann). The staff made you feel at home and part of there happy family, the facilities were excellent and the food was excellent. The location was very good, away from the noise of the main road and within walking distance were all facilities that you required on a holiday. This hotel is worth staying at and highly recommended by wife and myself.

Room Tip: rooms at the front give you a beautiful view.

Your review is gratefully received and really appreciate that you found the family caring side of our business. It seems that only the guests that have complaints go to the trouble of reviewing.
Many guest say how they have enjoyed their stay but don't give reviews, so for you to take the time and trouble put 'keypad to screen' it is very thoughtful.

Hull isn't the easiest place to find a nice hotel. This one has a good location near the restaurants of Princes Avenue, and is excellent for visiting the University campus or students, with easy parking and a lovely park opposite. The property is attractive and the room was comfortable with firm beds and good bed linen. With reference to other reviews, breakfast could certainly do with tea and coffee being provided by the waiting staff as tea made with a kettle boiled multiple times is not pleasant, but the cooked breakfast was good.

However I wonder whether the management have previous experience of running a hotel as the establishment seems to suffer from a lack of attention to what is needed. A visit to a Premier Inn would reveal to them that small things like hooks in a bathroom, bedside lights bright enough to read by and good lighting near the mirror for doing one's make-up make a huge difference at little cost! There was no latch on the bathroom door which meant its use in the night disturbed the others in the room.

There appeared to be little effective oversight of the duties carried out by their staff, who were too few in number, resulting in multi-tasking and consequent inefficiencies. This meant the receptionist had to leave the front desk to fetch us extra towels and set up the sofa bed even though the room had been booked for three people. Cleaning of the rooms is also of a superficial level – wardrobe shelves were dirty and the debris revealed by the opening of the sofa bed was unpleasant

However we enjoyed our stay and if our daughter hadn't been graduating and leaving Hull, we would stay again. Would have given it three and a half 'points' if I could.

A longer than normal report full of helpful points. It is a quiet time in the hotel trade during the school hols so staffing levels are at a minimum. The breakfasts are included in the price of the rooms so we aim to give very good value...
We find that most guests do not mind making their own drinks and toast so we are able to keep prices low. But all points tic. thank you.

Very sorry you had to wait but the house keeper was upstairs and the duty officer was between the card machines not working and the laundry delivery. Chef in the kitchen!!
Jake and Mark still there with all their banter.
