This is a relaxed yet elegant hotel.. but its main stand out feature are the staff. Warm and friendly, attentive but not overbearing I felt they were really pleased to have us there. The breakfast staff in particular couldn't have been more helpful or friendly. They even made sure we'd had everything we wanted before clearing away at the end of service. Breakfast by the way was delicious, hot and varied.

The hotel is spotlessly clean and quiet. The shared spaces are clam and elegant. The bar at night was very quiet but that added to the charm. The hotel is situated in an up and coming part of town, opposite the New Theatre which is being overhauled and looks like it will be lovely. Our room was number 4, and was spacious, beautifully decorated, with an enormous bed and lovely views of the park opposite. The only slight glitch for me was the windows which didn't open...i like my fresh air but thats a very minor point in an otherwise relaxing and lovely stay.

My husband and I stayed here overnight as it was cheap, in a convenient spot and had good reviews. We were not disappointed!

The hotel is immaculate. Whilst the decor is perhaps a little dated, the upkeep and cleanliness were second to none. The staff were truly an absolute credit to the hotel. Reception staff, bar staff and restaurant staff. Everyone we spoke to!

Our room was spacious, excellent tea and coffee facilities (sometimes hotels are a bit stingy), good size tv, lovely bathroom with a good shower and again, immaculately clean.

We ate in the restaurant on the evening and the food was fantastic! I had a steak which despite being a little more well done than I prefer (I always ask for medium in a new restaurant so no blame there) was still juicy and so tasty! Proper homemade chips and a to-die-for mustard and cognac sauce. My husband went for the fish platter and was delighted.

There is some free parking but not a huge amount. The parking information provided on the website is thorough though.

All in all, a really lovely stay. If we were ever in Hull again, we'd certainly stay here!!

We enjoyed 3 nights at this fine traditional hotel. Although within walking distance of the city centre it enjoys a quiet and pleasing location with a small park at the front. Our room was on the side so we found it a tranquil place (the Theatre opposite is closed for major rebuilding works so not sure if the front of the Hotel suffers from construction noise). Our double bedded room (No. 8) was clean and comfortable though not too spacious, but that comes with the territory of an old building. The bathroom is sizeable with an over-bath shower (we did report some problems with the mixer and shower water leaking onto the floor which was dealt with immediately).
Those are the few gripes done with. This hotel distinguishes itself with the quality of it's staff. All the staff we encountered were lovely; genuinely friendly and nothing seemed too much trouble for them. They showed a natural interest in our visit to Hull.
The other big plus point is the food. We enjoyed our breakfasts and also sampled an evening meal. Portions were very generous; the food was "home cooked", fresh and served hot. Any requests we made were met without having to ask again. We would happily stay here again.

Room tip: Our room at side of hotel was very quiet.

Charming visit to a hotel staffed by warm and welcoming folk who go out of their way to make you at ease and find solutions to any issues. Room was sumptuous and well provided with everything from tea to toiletries. Very clean and quiet.

Room tip: Just ask they are very accommodating and patient.

The hotel was in a superb location for visiting theatres, museums and shops but also very quiet, with a little garden opposite. The room was an executive king and very comfortable apart from over-stuffed pillows and tired seats. The waitress at breakfast kindly asked how we'd slept and when I mentioned the pillows, contacted the housekeeper and the pillows were changed.
The seating in the dining room was the same as in the bedroom: most of the dining chairs needed re-upholstering. But the staff were friendly and helpful and we enjoyed our stay.
The breakfasts were inconsistent. We were there for 3 nights and the fresh fruit was limited, the brown toast had run out one morning and the tomatoes and mushrooms tinned on another morning. Kippers very salty. Sugar-free cereal wasn't available, but there was low fat natural yogurt.
