“A truly beautiful place”
Reviewed 2 August 2012

Such a lovely place to visit, with the views changing at every turn - perfect, not as busy as some of the other lakes and the bird song is amazing. Get something from the bakery in Keswick and just chill in this beautiful location.

“Calm and peace - even in the rain”
Reviewed 2 July 2012

What a fabulous and magical place this truly is. I have viewed and walked around Derwentwater and all of the highlights to be found in many weather conditons, but the short walk from the lakeside car park to Friars Crag still holds me in awe. The sheer beauty of the views both along the way and at the crag it's self makes the short, easily negotiable, walk worthwhile. Even greater pleasure is derived if you find the place deserted and can afford the time to sit a while and contenplate (better still empty your mind completely and let it wander!). Alas, a qiet moment at the view point during the height of the holiday season can be hard to get - best try early morning or late afternoon if it is a few moments of solitude and respite that you are after.

“Rest and enjoy the scenery”
Reviewed 22 May 2012

We drove to the lakeside of Derwentwater at Keswick and parked. We caught a launch that took us around the lake stopping at different landings. There were a lot of walkers using this service to either get to the starting points for walks or to return them to Keswick after a walk. I made the mistake of wanting to sit outside but the lake was a little choppy so hence we got a bit of spray. In Australia, this would not be a problem but the lake water was COLD! The complete circuit took about an hour and gave us the chance to rest a little and enjoy the scenery.

“Lake and ferry”
Reviewed 15 May 2012

A beautiful spot with a hop on hop off ferry going the whole way round the lake. We got off at the second stop, Hawes End, and had a 2.5 hour walk around the southern part of the lake and then hopped back on at Lodore Swiss Hotel for the ride back to Keswick. A truly magical way of seeing this idealic lake, the path is fairly easy walking with some up and downhill tracks.

“Derwent Water”
Reviewed 9 February 2012

My favourite lake in the whole of the Lake District. Really beautiful if overpopulated in peak months. A must see for beginners...boat rides recommended. Short walk down to Friars Cragg is good...fabulous view at the end and seats available.
Views of Cat Bells across the Lake are excellent. A must see place definitely.
