“Beautiful in the sunshine”

This is a beautiful lake located near the M6. Great for a detour and lunch when heading to Scotland. We visited on a Saturday afternoon and was expecting crowds but it was surprisingly peaceful.

“Pleasant and scenic”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 August 2014

You can take a boat or walk around. There are pleasant villages for cafes and pubs. It is a good alternative for walks if the weather is dreadful for going up the hills!

“God Made Lake”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 July 2014

It really is, and the drive to it is super goregous too. Try doing the Steamer ride to Howtown which we, sadly, couldn't. But we enjoyed the environs nonetheless. We rated it a notch higher than Windermere Lake

“A special place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 July 2014

It's impossible not to like Ullswater. Situated on the eastern side of the Lake District, it seems to offer everything....lakeside walks, boat trips, spectacular waterfall at Aira Force and amazing scenery. You can combine several of its attractions, for instance take the launch from Pooley Bridge to Howtown then walk around the lake to Glenridding, have lunch then sail back to Pooley Bridge. From Howtown you can explore some of the less well known parts of the Lake District or have a go at Helvellyn from the Glenridding area.
There are pay and display car parks around Ullswater and plenty of opportunities for a picnic! Although it can get busy, it's always much quieter than places like Windermere and Keswick.
There are a good selection of places to eat from local cafés to hotel restaurants so there should be something to suit everybody.
We never tire of visiting Ullswater .... Spring, summer, autumn and winter, it's always a beautiful lake to visit.
