we booked this in January, when we had the full choice of Ambleside and I would guess we chose the best. Understated but so well informed hosts who could provide you with any piece of information you would ask for. we felt very welcome and not out of place at all in a place that obviously has regular vistors.
Complementary tea and coffee in the sitting room, excellent breakfasts especially the local bacon and eggs. The room we stayed in (Room 3) was lovely, good mattresses and fantastic shower with loads of hot water. The only criticism that could be made is that the window should be 10 ft tall and wide to make the most of the exceptional view - but I guess that is beyond your control.
Hopefully, we will be visiting again and shortly. I think we've finally found somewhere to be our regular haunt - thank you!!

Room Tip: this guest house is on a busy road, if possible ask for a back room which also has good views.

We have just returned from a 3-night stay at Elder Grove. Everything was top-notch. Warm welcome, great hosts, delicious breakfasts and packed lunches...on top of convenient Ambleside location (5 mins to town centre, 15 to Waterhead). We enjoyed using the passes to the leisure facilities at the Salutation Hotel as well...nothing like a sit in the sauna to soothe tired legs from walking. We would highly recommend staying here!

I always come back - what can I say? Paul and Vicky make the perfect hosts. The charming old victorian house with additional comfortable lounge and snug family room ..........including a bar are adorned with countless current travel awards. The breakfasts are divine! - there is even a special 'Veggie' Breaky.
Situated in the centre of Town.
My only dissapointment ever was when they were fully booked.
At such a fair price - MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

We have been coming here for 25 years, firstly with Vicky's parents and now Paul and Vicky. The breakfasts are excellent (especially the Cumberland sausage), and we can also recommend the packed lunches. Homemade jams, marmalades, bread and muesli galore. Rooms are a bit on the small size if like us you have rucksacks and suitcases, but there is plenty of hanging space, and hangers. The bed is comfortable and the bathroom brilliant, well stocked with plenty of lotions, cotton buds, sewing kit, soap, etc, etc. They also have the fastest filling bath we have ever seen! Look out also for the boot trays. These are such a good idea, we have just bought one for home. A bit more expensive than we would normally pay for a B&B, but we always think it is worth the extra.

I can only echo what others have already said in their reviews. I have just returned from Ambleside after having spent 5 very pleasant days in Elder Grove. Paul and Vicky are great hosts and very helpful. My single room was very clean, comfortable, and had an en-suite bathroom, which was a real luxury for me as I have found very few B&B's that have single rooms with en-suite bathrooms. The Cumbrian breakfast is to die for! I will definitely stay here again the next time I come to Ambleside.

It was our first stay at Elder Grove, 3 College friends on our annual reunion. We all found the accommodation, breakfast and hospitality outstanding. It is a great position for the centre of Ambleside and has excellent car parking. We will definitely be booking Elder Grove for our next get together. Highly recommended.
