“Does what it says on the tin”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 February 2014

A clean and comfortable room (Room 5) which is nicely decorated, and a tasty and substantial breakfast, run by a friendly couple and in a good location, what more could you want from a B&B. The room has plenty of storage space and a very comfy bed. The bathroom has a bath with a shower unit, but the bath is not very high, so would only be difficult for those with poor mobility. Our room was at the front of the building so there was some road noise, but it was not bad and did not keep us awake.

Top marks for location, service, food, the lot! My husband had already stayed here so the pressure was on him for it to be good and I wasn't disappointed. What's not to like about the place, Great breakfast, comfy room. Home made jam and marmalade. Great selection if you don't want a cooked breakfast which I didn't but then was tempted and had poached eggs the second day. They even have a small bar which we took advantage of and had Paul sit and chat to us for a while.

This was our first time in the Lakes District, so we totally relied on the Trip Advisor ratings for accommodation. I’m very glad to say that they didn’t let us down. Paul and Vicky ensured we had a very enjoyable stay. The rooms are cosy and comfortable and the shared lounge room is excellent for watching TV and having a cup of tea, just like at home. Paul made the pots of tea each night and delivered it to the room – all part of the standard service! The breakfasts are sensational, some of the best we’ve had. All the produce is sourced locally and prepared fresh to order. Our only disappointment is the size of the beds. They are advertised has queen size, but we believe they are only standard double.

Having stayed in quite a few b+bs in the lakes I have to say this is the best. Run by two lovely people, Paul and Vicky, who cant do enough for you, making it feel homely. Easy to park and in a great location for everything Ambleside has to offer. The fantastic breakfast really sets you up for the day and they have enough information about the area to make sure you will never be bored. My wife and I will certainly be back.

Room Tip: We had room 11 which looks out to the rear of the building so its nice and quiet. On the top floor b...

We booked here on a whim, we just fancied a Friday night in the Lakes. We got the last room available which was the four poster and it is a gorgeous room, very spacious with absolutely everything you need. The whole hotel is lovely. It's warm and welcoming, has parking, has free wi-fi (that actually works), amazing breakfasts, really nice hosts, fabulous location.....I could go on and on. My husband says he will not stay anywhere else in Ambleside now, nothing can top this place. I do agree, it was such a lovely place, however for me there was one teeny weeny issue which was the lack of plugs near mirrors. I know, I am being fussy, but I just wanted to point it out. Other than that it's a really cracking little place.....you have to try it!!

Room Tip: Our room was at the front of the house but we didn't suffer with road noise hardly at all.

I went to the Elder Grove a few days ago with my family. The room was clean and tidy. The owners were lovely, friendly and accommodating. Excellent location as well to get around Ambleside. Would definitely go back again!!
