Very well situated in Ambleside with lots of pubs and restaurants nearby this is a very cosy and friendly B and B. OK ....so my double room was on the small side but it's immaculately clean and with a nice view of Ambleside church. You pick what you fancied for breakfast the night before - and it was made to order in the morning - and very tasty it was too. Another important thing - it's got private parking which makes things a lot easier too. Thank you for a lovely stay.

It was the Great North Swim weekend with 10,000 visitors to the area so we did not want to let one of our three double guest rooms for single occupancy. The Tourist Information Centre said the person making the booking was happy to pay the double occupancy rate and had been informed it was a small room. We did try to make it better value by providing a double packed lunch and also free parking for both the guest and her sister all day Saturday in with the price. If two people had occupied the room after the TIC 10% commission charge we would have received approximately £5 per person per night more than the Youth Hostel charged that weekend, and where you share a dormitory room with shared bathroom/shower facilities plus extra for breakfast. Taking these things into consideration our price would have been very good value for two people.

Great location, easy access for sight seeing.
The B&B was exceptionally clean and the breakfast was presented with care and of good quality.
The bacon was the best I have ever tasted.
Our hosts Carole and Norman were very welcoming and helpful with local information.
We would definately stay there again if we were to visit the Lakes in the future.
I would certainly recommend this B&B to friends and family.

Room Tip: We would have been comfortable in any room but were pleased to have en-suite facilities

Stayed at The Highfield B&B for two nights in May. Great location for walking into town or a stroll to lake Windermere. Free parking at the rear is a definite plus in Ambleside . The accomodation was excellent . We had a bedroom at the front of the property which was spacious and nicely decorated. Breakfast was plentiful and freshly cooked. Would thoroughly recommend this as a good value accommodation ..

What a fantastic B& B , perfect location 200yards from town center, off road parking , filling breakfast that hits the spot along with all its trimmings, spotlessly clean and Carole and Norman made us feel very welcome and were excellent hosts. I,ll definitely be booking with them in the future. Carole also offers special rates and deals throughout the year. Look no further!

I have stayed at Highfield with my boyf several times now and would highly recommend.
It's a traditional b&b a minute's walk away from the chocolate-box town centre.

A big plus with this b&b is the off-road parking. Another - very important - plus is the quality of the breakfasts. Lots of choice, from fresh fruit and yoghurts to poached eggs, and of course the full English. And you get a nice pot of coffee (or tea) to wash it all down. They even asked us how strong we like our coffee and of course it came piping hot and to our liking.

We always pick the same room and it's always nipping clean, with a lovely view over Todd Crag. The bed is massive - perfect for flopping onto after a day up Helvellyn or wherever you get to!

The service from Carole and Norman is first-class. They really look after us each time we go and we've discovered some lovely walks thanks to their recommendations. They suggest walks for rainy days (handy, as it always rains when we're there!) and know the best places in town to eat (Zefferelis is top-notch too).

One point I would make is this: Highfield isn't a b&b pretending to be a hotel. The rooms aren't swanky or decorated in the latest Dulux hues; they are clean, comfortable rooms in a traditional Lakeland property. So if you like modern fixtures and fittings, this perhaps isn't going to be the b&b for you. But if it's comfort, good food, good parking and excellent service you're after, I would recommend 100%.
