Description: The Priest Hole Restaurant and Tea Rooms are part of Kelsick Old Hall, one of the oldest buildings in the beautiful village of Ambleside in the centre of the English Lake District. With many original features the atmosphere may not be edible, but it does play a huge part in your dining enjoyment, and our friendly young team work hard in a refreshingly casual, but attentive way, to provide a relaxed and enjoyable experience. We are happy to accept single diners and large groups. We have a delightful outside terrace for alfresco meals on those warmer days, or just to sit and have a coffee and watch the world go by. (Dogs welcome on the terrace.) Seperate dining area for special occassion group dining.

“What a rude waitress! Terrible”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 June 2014 via mobile

Looked like a nice place to eat, but cant comment on the food because before we had the chance we were put off by the waitress. We approached the restaurant and expected to be greeted with a smile and a hello but instead we got a 'one minute' response. It wasn't busy and was only quite early, there was a table for three facing onto the street so we asked could we sit there. As there was only two of us we knew it may not be possible. The young girl decided to make it clear that we were not welcome by saying "your not sitting there because ill lose out", we understood that but didnt understand why she had to be so rude. We decided to leave and she just gave us a huff in respone. What a shame. Lucys 4 tapas was much better, lovely staff.

“Great food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 June 2014

A reasonably priced menu offering a good range of choices. I had the falafel burger which was excellent. Friends had fish and chips and homemade lamb burgers and they enjoyed these too. My only niggle was that my chips tasted of fried fish which didn't really go with my meal. However, everyone else thought they were great. I have given the outdoor seating a score of 3 because it is by the main road but you do get to do a lot of people watching.

“Great Find”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 June 2014

Whilst staying in Windermere, drove into Ambleside to explore one evening and found The Priests Hole. Shown to the only vacant table by very helpful and friendly waitress. We chose from the specials but unfortunately all were sold out! So resorted to second choices. My wife chose Fish and Chips. This was Haddock and the batter really crunchy with no sign of fat. It came with hand cut chips, mushy peas and home made Tartar sauce containing red onions. I had Gammon with egg, wedges and salad leaves coated with a thick Balsamic vinegar. This restaurant is highly recommended, so hunt it out!

“Food good despite wait”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 June 2014

There was a new chef on duty and we had a bit of a long wait for our food to arrive. The waitress handled it very well and the food was good once it arrived.

“A shady nook”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 June 2014

Wednesday I was returning from an abortive walk courtesy of low rolling mist which denied me the chance to take photographs. I returned, changed and went out to find a place for a cold beer and a tasty lunchtime snack. Tucked into a little patio area the large umbrellas provided welcoming shade from the sun which had decided to reappear. a couple of bottles of cold beer and the waitress kindly explained the menu to me. I took the cold meat platter. Very pleasantly surprised. Home made pate, piccalilli, chutney, with slices of smoked chicken, a wedge of pork pie, spicy sliced sausage, crusty bread and butter with a nice rocket salad. Didn't know where to start, it all looked so appetising. Finally finished and had a coffee. All in all, a very tasty lunch, would certainly eat there again. Nice surroundings and helpful staff
