Description: The Priest Hole Restaurant and Tea Rooms are part of Kelsick Old Hall, one of the oldest buildings in the beautiful village of Ambleside in the centre of the English Lake District. With many original features the atmosphere may not be edible, but it does play a huge part in your dining enjoyment, and our friendly young team work hard in a refreshingly casual, but attentive way, to provide a relaxed and enjoyable experience. We are happy to accept single diners and large groups. We have a delightful outside terrace for alfresco meals on those warmer days, or just to sit and have a coffee and watch the world go by. (Dogs welcome on the terrace.) Seperate dining area for special occassion group dining.

This is a great characterful restaurant that serves delicious food at a good price. I love the inside of The Priest Hole, it's so full of character and you can just sense the stories that were made here in the past. My wife and I had an excellent meal here and would return again when we come back to Ambleside. Price wise, it's very reasonable, not the cheapest but worth it.

“Amazing Steaks!”

Stayed here for a very special meal. Me and my new fiance both had steaks with a sauce and they were both beautifully cooked!

It had rained the whole weekend at the lakes but when we got to the restaurant the sun came out and made it very warm. Couldn't stay long after it got warm as we both felt we was just getting uncomfortable in the Priest Hole. This was a real shame as we both really enjoyed the food and the staff were polite and helpful.

“nice meal”

We had the early bird menu which was £12 each for 2 courses and was hot freshly cooked food. As it was a sunny evening we were able to sit outside.

“Warm weather dining”

Nice location for outdoor lunch to watch the tourists amble past...in Ambleside of course. Prompt service with great local beer and cider. The muscles in a spiced sauce were a real treat. At an affordable price.

“Good value "early bird"”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 July 2014

The restaurant is in an old building with exposed beams and creaking wooden floors. The tables were covered in crisp white table cloths and napkins giving it the feel of a more expensive restaurant.
The reasonably priced menu offers a good choice of typical British dishes including fish and chips, 6oz burger and rump or sirloin steak plus specials such as salmon with new potatoes and vegetables. Two of us enjoyed the duo of Ambleside pork (£12.95) which consisted of a char-grilled pork loin steak and sticky bbq sauce ribs with spiced potato wedges and corn on the cob. Arriving early we chose from the same evening menu at £14.75 for two courses (£17.75 for three). Our fantastic desserts were a sticky toffee pudding and a dark chocolate torte, both with ice cream. Wine was reasonably priced and the service attentive.
