When we stayed at the Waterwheel guest house in Ambleside in May the owners, Paul and James introduced us to Gloria, their new campervan. Fitted out to the same standard as their lovely B&B, Gloria comes with loads of nice little luxuries from fluffy towels and a cosy duvet to your first breakfast and lovely Bathhouse toiletries. We immediately booked Gloria for a 10 day trip at the end of June and took her up through Galloway forest and over to Arran, Kintyre and Bute.
Helped by fabulous weather, we had an amazing and relaxing holiday. Gloria had everything we needed and all the 'extras' (camping chairs & table, TV & DVD, porta potty, levelling ramps) were included in the price, unlike most other hire companies we looked at, which means it was also really good value. The toilet (which fits under the back seat when not in use) meant we weren't tied to campsites and so most nights we just parked up by the sea, cooked dinner in the well-equipped 'kitchen' and sat out in the camping chairs drinking wine and watching the sun set. We really like the way its been designed specifically with couples in mind - the pop top roof gives you plenty of room inside and the fit out has been thoughtfully done to maximise space and comfort for 2 people. We've hired a van once before to travel round NZ so had a rough idea of what we were doing, but we also had a user manual for Gloria provided and everything demo'ed to us when we picked her up - and it was all really easy!
We didn't want to give Gloria back at the end of our trip and would love to take her on another adventure - although topping this holiday is going to be really tough!
Gloria, what a lovely and very modern camper!
We have rented a campervan before, but certainly are not avid campers or travellers so we would say to those maybe a bit unsure about trying it for the first time, that Gloria is definitely a good option for you!
She is also the perfect size, not too big but not too small so the transition from driving a car to driving Gloria is great.
She has all the mod cons to make you feel super comfortable e.g.- parking sensor, Bluetooth, two USB points (very handy!).
Paul gives a very thorough tour and provides a detailed info book to keep you right.
We have stayed in the waterwheel guest house, and it is clear the hosts have transferred the luxury feel and quality of the guesthouse into Gloria!
Our 3 day trip with Gloria really was made special with the luxury bedding, bath house products, and every amenity you could every need, all packed away conveniently for you to use!
They provided a lovely continental breakfast and milk in the fridge which was a lovely touch.
Gloria was easy to pitch up and was so cosy and luxurious to sleep in!- even had a place to set up the tv to watch movies in bed - bliss!
We took Gloria out for 3 nights, and we couldn’t recommend it enough.
Not only is every essential on board, luxury items and bedding are also included to make it that bit more special. After staying at the B&B previously, it was clear that the same level of thought and care has gone into the van as it has their rooms. There was even a continental breakfast included for our first morning!
I would certainly recommend this van for first time campers as it drove like a dream. The instruction manual and breakdown support all make for stress-free travelling, as well as Paul’s comprehensive tour of the vehicle and it’s features.
The website also lists campsites that the owners have tried themselves, we booked into some of these and they did not disappoint.
I would also recommend booking into the B&B on returning Gloria for a soak in one of their HUGE bathtubs and delicious full Cumbrian breakfast.
We were lucky enough to be Gloria's first guests. Paul greeted us on arrival and showed us how to put the roof up, connect the electric etc. Gloria has everything for a comfortable weekend, the kitchen is equiped with everything you could need. Paul and James have really thought it all out perfectly. The fold out bed was comfortable and the pillows, mattress topper and duvets were top quality. We explored all around the lakes staying on some great campsites and we did some great walks. We would highly recommended taking Gloria for a spin
