We had travelled to Scotland with relatives who were visiting from Australia and stopped off in the Lake District for an overnight stop on our way home. I looked at the guest houses with the highest ratings on TripAdvisor and chose Claremont House based on the ratings and comments.
We received a very warm welcome from David upon arrival and both David and Angela were extremely friendly and helpful throughout our stay. We were all very impressed by the cleanliness and décor of the rooms and found the beds very comfortable. The breakfast was excellent and there was a good choice of cereals and cooked options.
The guest house is located right in the heart of Ambleside and is easy to find. Parking was a slight issue when we arrived as there is a cinema nearby and all of the on-street parking was taken. However we were able to move the car later in the evening and parked immediately opposite Claremont House.
David has an amazing knowledge of the area and made a number of very helpful suggestions of places both to eat and to visit. In our case we weren’t going for any long walks but David is a very experienced walker (including mountain rescue experience) and therefore Claremont House would be a perfect base for anyone on a walking holiday.
We thought that the high TripAdvisor ratings were definitely justified and we would have no hesitation in booking to stay there next time we visit the Lake District.

We had a lovely long weekend in the greatest spot in the Lake District. It was enhanced by staying at Dave and Angela's warm, welcoming, comfortable and value for money Guest House. Despite the continual rain ( two hours of respite on the Sunday evening-but who cares?) we had a fabulous time. We ate at a fabulous restaurant ( Old Stamp House-try the tasting menu), walked to some invigorating heights ( Stickle Tarn and beyond, in the thick fog and incessant drizzle-but still lung cleansing) and tasted some great local ales and ciders. But each morning and night we felt 'at home' and welcome. From the wonderful cooked breakfast, cosy rooms and seasoned advice on walks and places to eat, drink and be merry our whole weekend was an absolute pleasure. Please make this Guest House your first choice ( except when we want to stay there!!) and experience Cumbrian hospitality at its finest.

Room Tip: I am sure all rooms are lovely but we liked our cosy room 5.

We had a lovely weekend in this friendly guest house, despite the traditional Lakes weather! Our family room was spotlessly clean and comfortable, and the breakfasts were excellent. Dave and Angela give a warm welcome and are very knowledgeable about the area. Highly recommended!

We stayed here during a long weekend in March, for some walking around Ambleside. It, as the title suggests, is perfect for this. The breakfasts are tasty and filling as a great set up to the day. Excellent, comfy rooms with deceptively spacious en-suites and the possibility of a drying area make a lovely place to return to after a hard day on the hills. Parking nearby is easy enough, and the house is situated right in the middle of Ambleside for easy access to facilities.
The jewel in the crown, however, is the owners. Friendly and helpful, Dave is an unbelievable font of Lake District knowledge and apparently a sharp-eyed judge of character - probably to be expected with a Mountain Rescue veteran! Having seen just us and our bags, he was happy to suggest a route on our first day that was absolutely spot on, and followed up the next couple of days with excellent tips for our planned routes and the loan of a map. Sprinkle this with a few stories and you can't really ask for more - especially as the weather decided to be glorious for once! Would wholeheartedly recommend, and definitely plan to stay again.

What a find! From the minute the front door was opened to the minute it was closed behind us, we had a perfect stay. The room was spotless, cosy, warm and stylish as was the en-suite. Breakfast was tremendous with plenty of choice. Bur one of the main things which sets this apart from previous b&b's I have used,is the welcome and friendliness of the owners. They are a very warm and welcoming couple, and also extremely knowledgeable about the area even lending us a map and detailed instructions for our walk on our departure! Thank you very much. We will certainly return!
