On one of our many trips to Ambleside we managed to visit Dodds for a birthday treat, we have been on many occasions and the food and service is consistently good. We brought family with us and they thought the food was amazing. The only down side is that you cannot book and you may have to wait for a table, but don't be put off by this as it is always worth the wait. The lasagne is the best ever, and the lamb was cooked to perfection and the hake was delicious. One of our favourite restaurants in Ambleside .

Despite doubting we would be back after our last experience my darling wife was keen to go again (Italian is her thing). Usual 10-15 minute wait applied as they don't take bookings. The cauliflower and mustard soup of the day was excellent as was, she tells me, my wife's white bait with chorizo.

Followed by a very tasty lamb rump (3 small slices; 1 more would have been nice) with a herb crust, very nice mint (green) mash and carrot purée. My wife had a spicy pizza which she said was "delish". Washed down with a bottle of Chenin Blanc. Bill was a few pence over £50; atmosphere was good. Lots of people waiting.

A slightly larger portion of lamb would have made this a 5!

Smart restaurant with a vibrant, bustling atmosphere, excellent service and quality of food, I went for the rib eye which was one of the best I've had but was also tempted to try their seafood linguini - will have to try that next time :-)

Lively atmosphere in this small restaurant. Food is well presented and superbly cooked. You can not book, and if you go late be prepared to wait. It is always busy. Drinks and nibbles are served at the bar if you manage to get a seat to wait there but at busy times there is often a line out the door.

Thank Reasons T
