Hotel is located about 3/4 of a mile from Ambleside, right on the edge of Lake Windemere. It has parking, takes about 10/15 minutes to walk to Ambleside.

The Room, has a large very comfortable double bed, plasma screen tv, toiletries, tea/coffee facilities, DVD player, additional fire/heater, hair dryer, wi-fi access, hairdryer, iron/board, fruit, biscuits.

The hotel is modern and tastefully decorated. The breakfast was excellent, staff very quick, and efficient. Choice of fruits, cereals, cold hams, cheese, yoghurts, water, juices and cooked breakfast.

Reception staff, helpdful and efficient, we arrived at 10am and were allowed to check in as the room was ready.

Now, I have to say the negative, after reading all the reviews on this website I decided to book it as they were all excellent, so I can only imagine that my room was a slip and is not the norm, because my room was certainly not up to a great cleanliness standard. The towel rail had sticky dust on it the alove housing the flowers in the bathroom was splattered with something, there were hairs in the bath. Every high surface and the fire, phones, were covered in dust (not the white type that settles very quickly) but clearly had been there several days. The apples left looked very yellow and were soft and the orange was mouldy. (this was removed the next day when I left it out so the housekeeper could see it, but not replaced). The windows in the corridors had several cobwebs in them and small spiders were visible on the ceilings.

I paid £254 for two nights direct for their website, an apparent 40% reduction on their rack price, had I paid the rack price I would have been very dissapointed.

Stayed at the Waterhead 2 adults and 4 children for 5 nights in a 2 family rooms just a few rooms apart. I cannot say enough about this hotel, it is clean and contemporary. The rooms are immaculate, so comfy with a home like feel, our kids didn't want to leave the rooms, they had so much fun. The hotel is pricy, but you get what you paid for - which in my opinion was worth every penny.
Was concerned about the hotel not being child friendly but i couln't have been more wrong.
The beds were really comfy and hotel to me stood out for the little extras it provided for its guests such as tea/coffee in your room, bottled waters in your room. The DVD collection which you could take out at no cost (which incidently the kids loved). All this added to the quality of stay here.
Highely recommend this hotel with a lovely scenic harbour across the road.

Beautiful hotel in fabulous location.
Quite expensive, but you get what you pay for.
Very clean and comfortable, superb food and very attentive staff.
Will certainly return. The best hotel on the lakes.

We enjoyed our 2 night break here. I thought I was being extravagant when I booked a lake view room but it was worth every penny. Lovely comfy bed, beautiful view, delicious breakfast - shame about the weather!

We had a lovely two night stay at this hotel. There was 2 adults , one child and a baby. We stayed in a classic room for £116 per night which was fine and roomy enough for us all with a spare bed and travel cot. The bathroom was lovely and the bedroom had nice touches like plasma tv and ice bucket filled each day. The hotel and rooms were so hot but staff were pleasant and nothing was too much trouble. We used the Low Wood pool when it was raining which was great with our two children. Breakfast was nice and lovely to be served at the table rather that yuk buffet. Hotel lovely position. The only fault we had was no lift (people in front of us in check in were disabled which was a struggle for them) however we just managed with 2 pushchairs!! We would def return and would recommend this hotel to friends and family.

Just stayed at the Waterside for a 2 night, weekend break and loved it.

As it was to celebrate our wedding anniversary, we splashed out and booked a 'luxury room'. From what I could tell, the luxury rooms are the largest, on the first floor and with lake views. I don't know what other features ours had that the lower grades didn't but ours was very spacious, had a large, super king bed, 2 chairs and a coffee table, modern wall mounted fireplace, wall mounted flat screen TV, bathrobes and slippers. The in-room tea and coffee facilities were above average with a cafetiere, ground coffee and lovely big mugs with a good selection of teas, hot choc etc. There was an ice bucket in the room which was filled each day and bottled water. The bathroom was very stylish with a great, crome, coil shaped, heated towel rail. I thought at first it didn't really need to be on as it was summer but then found it really useful to dry the bottoms of my jeans on when they got soaked in the rain!!

The staff were very friendly and always acknowledged your presence.

We had an excellent meal in the hotel restuarant and breakfast was plentiful with a good choice. Hot breakfasts were made to order so no desperate looking eggs and sausage that have been sitting there for an hour.

Loved the little querky touches like the piped 'stories' in the bar/restuarant bathrooms. It made a change from the usual elevator music. I think it was tales from Beatrix Potter.

This appears to be a hotel that strives to go the extra mile to make their guests stay as comfortable as possible. This is evident by the staff award programme they run - you can see all the examples of 'thank yous' in the copy of their newsletter in each room among the local area info. It felt like the sort of place that really cared if you were having a good time unlike some of the chains these days who, despite their loyalty schemes, really just don't care whether you make a return visit or not.

The Waterhead may not be the cheapest but you'll not be taking any chances with your hard earned cash!

  • Liked — That the hotel had really thought about what makes a great hotel stay.
  • Disliked — still quite pricey just for B&B but I guess you get what you pay for!

My Boyfriend took me to this hotel for 2nights for a mid week break. Hotel was amazing, clean, modern and staff were lovely. Hotel food was excellant and the rooms were kept well stocked with bottled water and ice aswell as hot drinks. Loved the little touches the hotel staff did, such as prepared our bed in the evening and placed chocolates on our pillow!!!!

Location was excellant and we never had a problem parking the car in the hotel car park even though it was quite small.

I would highly recommand this hotel and we shall be returning. We did use the swimming pool etc at the sister hotel down the road this was no more than a 5min drive if that and was very nice with an outdoor hot tub!!
