“Amazing Anniversary”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 February 2014

As it was a special occasion we decided to stay in the Lakeland Double. After a long drive we eventually arrived to find the hotel centrally located in Ambleside and as we parked in the car park, the reception staff came out to greet us and to tell us where we could park.

The reception staff were very welcoming and friendly and told us where our room was (which was just opposite the main building to the hotel). Our room was fantastic, it was very clean and warm, the bed was very comfy and the bathroom was beautiful. In fact the bathroom was the cleanest, most beautiful bathroom I've had when holidaying in the UK. The bath was a Jacuzzi bath and the shower was a very powerful rainfall shower with our toiletries provided and towels also. The towels were big, white and fluffy, very luxurious.

The hotel room provided us with tea making facilities which is an amazing bonus for myself, TV, slippers, robes, towels, hairdryer, and even little bottles of water.

With its central location, it makes the hotel very easy to find and also all other amenities close by. Which was fantastic. For anything forgotten (like toothpaste) there's a Tesco Express down the road also.

The staff within the hotel are very friendly and polite, helping whenever necessary. The breakfast provided is absolutely "out of this world." Virtually anything you want they have. For people heading out for a long day walking like ourselves they do the "big breakfast" I have never been over faced by food but this breakfast was so delicious and big that even I couldn't finish it. This breakfast menu caters for everyone, carnivores, vegetarians, kids, vegans. Its absolutely fantastic. The hotel also has its own bar and the prices there are pretty reasonable.

The hotel allows you access to their leisure facilities. Usually I'm not one for using these facilities however, we did and they were lovely. The pool is a reasonable size but not if your wanting an Olympic sized pool, there is a lovely steam room and sauna where ice is provided outside to cool down and the finishing touch is the hot tub outside. As a couple it was so lovely to relax after an intense walking day outside in the hot tub. The hotel provide you with a locker and towel to use within these facilities and there are changing rooms for you to change in so your not running round in your swimming things through the hotel.

I was very sad to leave this hotel, it is absolutely fantastic and I certainly would recommend it to anyone who was thinking of going to Ambleside. We will definitely be returning again.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Woodlands and it was fantastic. Very quiet

Thank you so much for such an excellent review I'm so pleased we were part of your anniversary celebrations. Your kind comments about the hotel, our great staff, facilities, bedrooms, service and breakfast's are really appreciated .We are really proud of our breakfast buffet and I agree our big breakfast's are guaranteed to set you up for the whole day! Glad you enjoyed the hot tub it's a real must after a hard day on the fells. Our Lakeland Rooms are proving very popular and the Woodlands Room has a bit of a Mediterranean apartment style feel to it. Don't be sad about leaving us just come back to stay again soon! We look forward to your return.

We have stayed at The Salutation many times and have always recommended/introduced the hotel to our family and friends. This time, for the first time we decided to take our dog, Charli, with us to the "Sally". It is important to be realistic and to respect the policy of any establishment with regard to "four-legged friends". A recent reviewer described the Salutation as "Promotes as dog friendly but is only Dog Tolerant, " our experience was that Charli was welcomed with open arms (and biscuit tin!!!). The only area where dogs are not allowed is the restaurant/bistro and this is a perfectly reasonable request from any hotel.
As we were unsure how Charli would react being left alone in the bedroom we decided to put her in our car while we had breakfast/evening meals and whilst she probably would have preferred the warmth and comfort of the room (being a dog of advanced years) it did her no harm to wait in the car for a short time. So 10/10 on the "dog friendly" rating.
The hotel continues its redecoration/refurbishment programme with minimal disturbance to guests. Our room had recently been "redone" and was very stylish but retained the comfort that we have come to expect at the "Sally".
If you are looking for comfort, style and a friendly atmosphere we highly recommend a stay at the Salutation.

I have stayed at this hotel a few times and would not normally make another review but in this respect, I will.
The hotel seems to be almost refurbished and the reception area has been revamped and finishing touches are being made to some corridors although you would have hardly noticed.
The room we were allocated was lovely, bathroom with jet bath and view from room overlooking the centre of town. Breakfast is superb with a great selection of foods and the dining area is very well set out creating a lovely ambience. We enjoyed the dining experience so much we ate in the hotel on each of the three nights we stayed and not forgetting the Spa and my favorite the outdoor hot tub. The staff are very professional and it would be hard to single one person out for praise.
So thank you again Salutation for a lovely relaxing break.

I stayed in this hotel couple times and enjoyed it very much. The hotel has a perfect location as we use to go for a night out it's in the town center. The rooms are very nice, comfortable and usually with a stunning view. I rely enjoy spending time in the hotels lobby area as its very cousy and we can play drafts and have a cup of coffee:)
The swimming pools, sauna and the hot tub are enjoyable.
All staff very nice and helpfull. Restaurant food is good and breacfast are very nice as well.
Can't wait for the next stay.

Room Tip: We had a very nice room with a balcony and town view:)

We are at the moment in our room in this wonderful hotel. We are on a 3 day break to re-charge our batteries and already, after only 1day, we can feel the stresses falling away. This hotel is by far, the best the Lakes has to offer. The hotel itself is so welcoming. All the staff are lovely and nothing is too much bother. Our room is fantastic and we have possibly the best shower in the world! Breakfast was plentiful, too plentiful as I ate too much! We spent the morning in Ambleside but came back to the hotel after lunch to use the Spa. Words aren't enough to explain how lovely the pool and spa area is. The out side hot tub is so special we are planning to get one! We are so relaxed its wonderful. We can't thank the staff here enough for all they do. We have stayed many times, but sadly, not for a few years. The new, re-designed reception is lovely, looks so much bigger and brighter. Really don't want this stay to end. Dinner last night was lovely. We can thoroughly recommend the Salutation Hotel. You will not be disappointed. A little piece of Heaven in the Lakes. Thank you.

We have stayed at The Salutation on many occassions and value for money for what is on offer gets better on each visit. The management are always re-investing improving rooms, decor-even a new reception area this time. The staff are lovely, the bar area is relaxed but fitted out to a very high standard, the restaurant is excellent and the pool/leisure area is top quality. The bedrooms are spacious and have everything you need for a great break. It's location is very central with 5/6 pubs all within 5 mins walk. All in all- get me back there !
