Last time I wrote a review of the Salutation I made one or two small criticisms but on this return visit the reasons for them had disappeared. This is now a wonderful hotel. For a start, everybody from the joint managers Sue and Paul down were very friendly and could not do enough to make our stay a marvellous one. The bedrooms were spotless, and cleaned thoroughly ever day, the beds comfortable and the bathrooms lovely with showers that delivered a really powerful spray and plenty of hot water. The food was not, thank goodness, "Master Chef" but good, honest fare, smoothly and efficiently served by the pleasant and helpful waiting staff. I had one of the best gammon steaks I have ever eaten, the roast chicken was delicious (and what an enormous portion!) and one of our group praised the roast beef. The breakfast, partly buffet style, was amazing. Everything you could ever want. Delicious porridge, and the cooked breakfast, which was served to your table, was beautifully cooked, eggs just as you wanted them, tasty sausage, scrumptious bacon (and did not come running in grease as English breakfasts do in so many places.) The wine list was interesting and not too badly priced given that this is a hotel. I did not try the spa but those who did enjoyed it. Have I any complaints at all? Yes, just one. The Salutation keeps a splendid pint of local beer but why this is served in one of those tall, stupid lager glasses and not in a proper, straight British pint glass I cannot understand. Am I being petty here? Probably.

Thank you for such a wonderful review. So pleased we ticked all the boxes for you on this stay , and that you enjoyed dinning with us and of course our breakfast. Even if I do say so myself we do have a great buffet selection - we struggle to think of any more dishes to put on it! We are lucky to have such great staff in all departments front and back of house which makes for a great atmosphere in the hotel, thank you once again your feed back and views are very important to us. I look forward to welcoming you back and I will endeavour to hunt out a British pint glass for you!

Have just returned from a long weekend 50th Birthday trip for the wife to the Salutation. The booking process was straight forward through the Best Western site and the site photo's truly represented the hotels rooms and facilities that we encountered. We booked the Woodlands suit which is a stand alone apartment that doesn't look much from the outside but is large, comfortable and well equipped. The apartment comprises of a hallway, large lounge area and a bedroom area. All areas are a high standard of decoration. The bathroom is very well equipped and includes a Spa bath as well as a stand alone shower. The only downside is don't expect much of view. The French windows look out on the Hotel entrance and street but due to the location of the hotel, there aren't many views anyway. The Hotels restaurant is particularly good and excellent value. The staff are particularly hard working and extremely helpful. There is a good pool and fitness suite downstairs. All in all I would highly recommend the hotel.

Room Tip: Didn't see any other rooms but can highly recommend the Woodlands suite.

We just liked the look of the place on a recent visit so we went in for an evening meal, we were not guests but they made us feel welcome, it was very clean and tidy, the staff were very good and the food, wine and service were all excellent, we would go again.

I have always had some reservations about the Best Western hotels but my views have thoroughly transformed after my recent stays in some of them. I had a fantastic stay, the room was nicely decorated, the bathroom was fantastic, I even had a jacuzzi bath tub. The staff were polite and the breakfast was cooked to order so fresh and not standing around. The location was well placed for a little exploration around the town which helps for my hunt of a restaurant for my evening meal. Personally I am not a great fan of dining in hotel, not that there is anything wrong with hotel food. The only negative comment I have would be the difficulty with parking as this is limited. Looking forward to be back.

Stayed here last weekend for 3 nights. The rooms were clean, and well maintained. Food was great, good variety of menus for both breakfast and dinner. Staff most helpful.Only downside is parking is at first come first served, but for a price you can reserve a parking spot. Very central location for Ambleside and pool, spa facilities great.Another little niggle was that the hotel is quite warm, both in the rooms and dining area, so t shirts order of the day for breakfast. We were lucky, we had a great room with a balcony, to the rear of the hotel, so had the door open most of the time we were there.
Overall, great place...would go back again.

Room Tip: Rooms at the rear have large balconies.

Thank you very much for taking the time to post a review. Your kind comments about the hotel, our facilities, food , location and staff are much appreciated. We do have one space for each of our rooms and myself and the reception staff are always on hand to assist with car parking, we do not charge for car parking, the only spaces that we reserve are for Blue Badge holders and we have a limited amount and these are pre booked prior to arrival. Apologies you found the hotel too warm, the main building dates back to the 16th century and parts of it really do retain the heat, our restaurant is fully air conditioned . So pleased you were able to enjoy the balcony and the views and hopefully some Lakeland sun, I look forward to being able to welcome you back to the hotel soon.

We just used the Spa facilitities, thanks to a special deal from Lakelovers (the company we booked our self-catering cottage with). Staff were very friendly & helpful, pool/sauna/hot-tub/changing rooms were all just as you would wish. Unpretentious, spotless, relaxing! We particularly enjoyed soaking in the outdoor hot-tub, in a gentle drizzle.
