recently stayed for one night at the salutation best western hotel, everything went smoothly from on line booking to check in i've often stayed in ambleside and always used the B&B's which are really good value but this actual hotel was on a special price and didn't cost much more, but being a hotel you had all the extras such as a car park , fitness suite swimming pool although i didn't use the fitness suit and pool but next time i go to ambleside i will take my cossie! because of the time of year there are lots of good deals on so for a few pounds more a hotel made a really good choice. Excellent bath and shower and comfy beds although had to turn off radiators as felt a little too warm ! but really in november not a bad thing, dinning room for breakfast good choice on self service followed by full english, pleasent helpful staff. Dined out at stampers in the evening but may try the hotel resturant next time. comfy lounge area all round great experience

We have just returned from a 2 night stay at this Hotel. We had booked three rooms as we attended a wedding alongside our children and their partners. Everything about the stay was perfect. The staff are very friendly and helpful our rooms were lovely - 2 in the hotel and ours in one of the lodges. The leisure facilites are very good and the hot tub perfect after a busy day or walking. Lovely to have a cooked breakfast included -many four star charge extra for this. We stayed an extra night and our evening meal was fantastic. We would stay again and try more Best Western Hotels in the future.
ps Great to have car parking at the hotel.

Really nice hotel, breakfast cooked to order and evening meals good value and to a really good standard. Spa excellent and good value, hotel guests get 10% off treatments. If you can try to book in advance so that you can have the flexibility of the appointment system. Standard, decor and cleanliness of rooms excellant. Hotel has a small carpark which is free with a token for hotel residents. Good central location with good local amenities.
Would be a good choice.

A friend and I Stayed at the Ambleside Salutation for one night last week as a treat for her 30th birthday. We really, really enjoyed our stay.

The hotel is really well situated, right in the middle of Ambleside next to lots of restaurants and shops. As it was a special occasion, I paid extra to stay in one of the Club Rooms (212) which are meant to be larger rooms with bigger beds. I was slightly disappointed with the size of the Club room as it still felt quite small and a little dark, however considering I made the booking the day before we were due to arrive I shouldn't complain! Nonetheless it was very clean, with a beautiful bathroom (wet room & spa bath) and beautiful views over the hills.

The leisure facilities are SUPERB! There is a sauna, steam room, jacuzzi, pool and an outdoor hot tub which is absolutely fantastic. They have a well kitted out gym with lots of high tech machines that any gym goer would no doubt enjoy.

The breakfasts were really nice, the selection was really good and the hot food was served very quickly.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone planning a trip to the Lakes, and it's just a shame we couldn't stay longer!

We stayed at the Salutation in September, our second visit to the hotel. Overall it is well worth a visit. We used one of the Club Rooms which have plenty of room and are comfortable and quiet. The health club is very good as well with a great pool, hot tubs and sauna/steam room. The only thing which lets the hotel down is the quality of food. We had breakfast on 3 mornings and it was all very poor quality. Runny porridge and overdone fish. We cant comment on evening meals as the breakfast put us off eating there in the evening, especially when there are so many other great restaurants in Ambleside. We couldnt get the free WiFi to work (no reception in our room).

The hotels new leisure facilties are simply fantastic, however i thought the rooms were classic but matbe a bit dated. The only let down was the dinner in the restaurant, starters and mains were ok and then we ordered a cheeseboard expecting some nice local cheeses, but we were given processed, tasteless rubber cheeses which was a complete let down and kind of ruined our otherwise great experince. However, good central location in Ambleside.

The Ambleside Salutation is well situated in the centre of Ambleside, they have reasonably large parking area which is handy as you can just go on walks from Ambleside leaving the car there.

Staff were friendly at check in and all other interactions we had with them.

Our room was at the front so had a view over the main street and towards Loughrigg...very nice. It had a balcony which we sat out on (once it stopped raining) and drank wine watching the world go by in the early evening, The room itself was relatively small but well furnished & equipped (chairs, tea/coffee, trouser press, spa bath, digi TV), the bed was a little small for us (I'm over 6 ft) and I found the pillows a bit over stuffed.

The best bit of the hotel by far was the leisure facilties, the gym, pool, jacuzzi, sauna, steam room and swimming pool were great...as was the outside hot tub...fantastic. All seemed new and very clean, a really nice environment to excercise or chill out in.

Food was nice, breakfast excellent - plenty to keep you going all day.

Overall we loved the hotel and the area, an excellent place to take advantage of the Lakes and chill out after a long walk. We liked it so much we booked parents in law in as thanks for looking after the kids all weekend.
