Just stayed for two nights but found the staff friendly and eager to place. We needed a very early breakfast and arrangements were made without any problem. The place is centrally located, was immaculately presented and the breakfast excellent. Would go back any time!

The first and most important thing to mention about this hotel is the parking and the fact that there is lots of it. This is really important to mention as Ambleside has many places to stay where getting your car out of the car park involves a military manoeuvre with up to three other cars all needing to be moved just to let you out!

The hotel was clean and very friendly. The owner is keen to please and makes you feel at home from the moment you walk in.

The breakfast is excellent with a good choice and good portion size - the plates are the hottest I've ever experienced in a hotel! This hotel also offers a drinks service in the lounge which is a nice touch - especially after a long day of fell walking.

On the slight downside, the rooms and overall decor are very old-fashioned and this wasn't to our taste. The resident's lounge could do with some major modernisation to make it a more welcoming place to relax - I think this would also be a great selling point for the hotel.

Overall a very nice hotel - and don't forget the parking! :)

Room Tip: Some of the small doubles really are very small - stay away from them!

We stayed in room 17 for 2 nights with out Labrador pup (5 month old) and in his cage and were well pleased. Very helpfully staff and a good breakfast, even a reasonably priced drinks service in the lounge. Our room was straight onto the car park with an external door which worked well having a pet with us, it might not everybody's ideal layout tho. Great central location near main road but we did not find road noise too bad. We will stay again.

We really enjoyed our short stay at this hotel. We had booked a small double room, but we even though we were on a short break needed to do some work while we were away. The staff allowed us to change to a larger room with a suitable desk space with no fuss at all - nothing was too much for them. The rooms were warm, clean and airy. A good choice of food at breakfast, all freshly prepared - including a fresh fruit salad. (So often these are just from a tin!). Parking was convenient, - we didn't need to use the car at all while we were there.
Our son is getting married in the Lake District during August, so I will be recommending this hotel to family and friends who will be coming along.

Stayed during Easter break, it was great place. Very clean, good location, quite but just minutes to the centre of Ambleside and a short walk to Windermere. The owners were very attentive and friendly, always willing to give advice about the Lake District, from trails and places of interest to things to do while waiting for the train... Breakfast was delicious and the service was impressive. We were sad to leave.

We have recently stayed at this hotel for 2 nights .It was chosen as a result of reading trip advisor reviews, and we were not disappointed. The hotel is situated about 3 mins walk from the centre of Ambleside, so the car can be left in the car park. There are several room standards, and we had a double standard room (10) with magnificent views. The room itself was spotless, and well equipped. Even though the weather outside was exceptionally cold the heating inside was more than adequate. Customer service was second to none, and the breakfast was varied hot and well cooked (served in a light and airy conservatory). There was also an additional service that meant that a selection of snacks and alocholic drinks were available from reception at certain times. There was a residents lounge with daily newspapers available .Ambleside is an excellent place to stay as there are many places to eat , and a wide selection of shops .It is also centrally situated for visits to Windermere, and Bowness or to travel north to Grasmere and Keswick and even further afield.

Room Tip: If there is anything that you particularly want , ask in advance.Hotel is by a busy road but road no...

Stayed at Rothay Garth with wife and 2 kids for a night last week. Great and friendly welcome from the Dixon family. Room 18 was perfect for the 4 of us, nice and spacious and quiet which all added to a good nights sleep in the lovely Lake District. Breakfast the next day was v tasty including all the things you want when you're not cooking or washing up, sausages, bacon, black pudding etc. Can't recommend a stay at Rothay Garth enough.
