“We were early birds”
Reviewed 16 May 2014

We have eaten here in the past and enjoyed our meals.

On this occasion we decided to eat early and take advantage of the early bird - discount offer pre 6.30pm.

The food and service were excellent = and very good value.

“Naff gloop”
Reviewed 9 April 2014

This is a review of the food only - we got a takeaway rather than eating in.

Which was where the start of the problem was. For lurking in the bag was not my "Kung Po Duck" but "Fried Chicken in Lemon Sauce".

Of course had I eaten in, we could have had the mistake rectified. But this is fundamental. Get your customer's order right first time. But how do you even get those two mixed up? They don't even sound the same when you say them. Kung Po Duck, Fried Chicken in Lemon Sauce... Nope, in no way are they even remotely similar.

As it was the lemon chicken thing was pretty grim. The starers were oily and greasy.
My partner's veg chow mein wasn't great either. Maybe I'm wrong here, but isn't chow mein supposed to be fried noodles? This was strange and sauce based.

Some people on Tripadvisor clearly love this place, and maybe they have some amazing stuff on the menu. All I can say is that I didn't eat anything good. Except the egg fried rice which, I will concede, was pretty good. But I can't live of egg fried rice. And on the basis of that takeaway, I won't be back

“Worth a visit”
Reviewed 26 March 2014 via mobile

We dined here twice when visiting Ambleside.
First visit we had the happy hour menu which was very tasty and amazing value.
Second visit we went a la carte when I had the best fillet steak cantonese ever.
Friendly and welcoming-highly recommended.

“Second best in Ambleside”

Takeaway from the China cottage was bland and a bit flavourless, will be sticking with the lucky dragon next time.

“Great food.”
Reviewed 7 March 2014 via mobile

Not the most luxurious Chinese restaurant we've ever eaten in & also a little cramped, but the food was very good.
We opted for the £18 a head banquet consisting of a mixed platter to start followed by crispy duck pancakes then 3 different main courses served with fried rice.
All the food was piping hot & was not over seasoned, as a lot of Chinese food tends to be.
Overall a good dining experience that was great value.
