“A lodge at the Gateway to the centre of the Lake District”

Park Gates is a very comfortable and well appointed lodge at the entrance to the Rydal Hall estate and a few minutes walk from the amenities of Ambleside. Both house and garden are attractive and maintained to a high standard. It makes an ideal base for walking in the central areas of Lakeland; the Fairfield Horseshoe commences from the front door; Rydal Water and Grasmere are a pleasant stroll away via the Rydal estate.
The lodge is close to the A591 but in contrast to the day, traffic at night is infrequent.
The rental is very reasonable for the location and season.
An experience that you will enjoy.

This cottage is decorated very tastefully and is furnished to the highest standard. It is more spacious than it looks in the pictures. The location is perfect and only 10 min walk into the centre of Ambleside. The hosts have equipped the cottage with board games, videos, DVD's,, books, walking magazines and have made every effort to make your stay enjoyable. There is a comfortable secluded patio where we ate breakfast each day. The tv reception is not good but we only watched the World Cup semi finals.

The sun was shining when we arrived at Park Gates Lodge which is a truly tranquil spot. The modern kitchen with two large windows is bright, light, airy, extremely well equipped and spotlessly clean. The lounge is very comfortable with an extensive supply of books, videos, childrens' games and DVDs. The newly fitted bathroom is excellent and the two bedrooms are extremely comfortable, although a little short in storage. The enclosed patio affords great privacy and the heavily stocked garden is beautiful.

Although wi-fi is advertised it has not as yet been connected.

Our stay here was all too short

We have just spent a lovely week in this cottage. It is a beautiful, clean house with lots of character. We couldn't believe how good the location was. The owners have done a fantastic job and the many personal touches makes it feel as though you are at a home away from home.

Park Gates Lodge has it all. The house is cosy, beautifully furnished and with loads of character. Everything is exceptional quality and the owners are friendly and helpful (texts checking we had everything we needed and that we'd enjoyed our stay). We loved it so much we booked again straight away for a week the same time next year. It's a lovely house in a lovely place - a perfect holiday, in fact.

“Magical”
Reviewed 30 August 2013 for a stay in August 2013

My husband and our two youngest sons were fortunate enough to stay at Park Gates Lodge for a few nights in early August. The word we all used to describe our stay here was "magical." We were greeted upon arrival by the "sheep next door" and were delighted to discover that we were just down the path from Rydal Hall and an amazing view of the fells over the sheep pastures. Patrick and his associates were wonderful to deal with from day one (Pat even texted while we were there to make sure we were settled in and to see if we needed anything). The cottage was very clean and is absolutely beautiful. It is spacious and was very well-equipped for our family of four. There are many lovely walks right from the cottage and Ambleside is also within a 15 minute or so walking distance. We travelled throughout England and Ireland for almost a month and our stay in the Lake District, and particularly at Park Gates Lodge, was truly a highlight of our wonderful trip abroad. My husband and I hope to be able to come back some time for a longer stay (our boys, like Pat's children, whined about all the hiking, so we may just leave them behind next time!). Highly recommend the cottage for a very special stay in the Lake District.
