“Fantastic location, well presented, very clean and well equiped house”
Reviewed 17 August 2017 for a stay in August 2017

The lodge is just 5 minutes walk in to the middle of Ambleside (on pavements all the way), plus it has public footpaths going from the front door so you can walk over to Rydal / Grasmere etc. Owner was very helpful in sorting out arrival arrangements and checked that everything was okay once we were there via text. Lovely little courtyard at the back to sit quietly of an evening with a barbeque. House is well equipped and very clean, with everything you need for your stay. Really feels like "home from home" as opposed to a rental property. We shall return !!

“Walks right from the doorstep!”
Reviewed 19 May 2017 for a stay in April 2017

We had a lovely stay in this clean, comfortable, cosy and characterful lodge just outside Ambleside. The property was well equipped and tastefully decorated and very spacious. The garden was delightful. From the doorstep there is a path (with fantastic views) that leads to Rydal Hall and then onto the Coffin Route into Grasemere, Rydal Mount, Loughrigg Fell and beyond as far as you want to go! The shops in Ambleside are within walking distance for food etc and the bus stop just outside the main gate for a trip to Rydal in one direction and Windermere in the other. We can recommend Chesters by the River in Skelwith Bridge for wonderful food and a tempting shop. The only downsides were that we were not staying for longer and that we had to take our rubbish with us (we've never had to do that before)!

“Home away from home.”
Reviewed 20 April 2017 for a stay in March 2017

Park Gates Lodge is a lovely comfortable cottage close to Ambleside and in a perfect position for many walks. Holidays in this cottage in Autumn 2012 and again in Spring 2017 have been most memorable. As we are from Australia, this will be our last holiday here so I am very envious of anyone who is able to make use of such a wonderful cottage.

this little lodge is in such a perfect position only had to use the car a couple of times as everything is so easy to get to walking and although we did not use the bus service that stops outside its regular and gets you all over the lakes . the lodge was home from home and had everything you could want and was very cosy .kitchen had everything you needed for making breakfast up to a full dinner. now it is next to a very busy road but the noise is not to bad at all and did not rely notice it at night was nice to get a message on the mobile welcoming us to the lodge and also on the last day wishing us a safe journey home . we had a great 2 weeks here which was our first visit to the lakes and hope to rebook the lodge for next year

The cottage is in a lovely, peaceful location yet within walking distance of the many good restaurants in the centre of Ambleside. There are many great walks from the door, a real bonus during the busy summer season when I imagine the roads are really busy.

Liked best: The location of the property and the many species of birds that visit the bird feeders. Very quiet but within walking distance of the many good restaurants in Ambleside
Liked least: Hardly worth mentioning, but a few extra coathangers would have been useful, especially if there are four of you!

“Cosy, clean, comfortable and in a good location”
Reviewed 24 November 2015 for a stay in November 2015

This cottage is on the edge of town nicely screened from the road which gives it a rural feel, while still being a quick walk from Ambleside. It had everything we needed for our stay; off road parking, well equipped kitchen, lovely bathroom, cosy living room, and a comfortable if a bit small double bed. Would definitely stay here again. There is a lovely footpath right outside that goes through the beautiful grounds of Rydal Hall, and all the way to Grasmere if desired! It didn't bother us much but the TV reception is very flaky in windy conditions.

Hi, many thanks for your review, glad you enjoyed the cottage, and sorry that the tv reception can be troublesome, to rectify this we have had a new smart tv connected to wifi, so that when the weather affects the tv reception, guests can access their own netflix and sky accounts if they wish, and of course the full range of catch up tv channels.

“Perfect cottage in the perfect location”
Reviewed 21 August 2015 for a stay in August 2015

We have just got back from Park Gates Lodge, which is a beautiful and comfortable house just 10 minutes walk from the centre of Ambleside. It is in a lovely setting, with the stream just opposite (great fun for children), and there are lots of local walks you can do without using your car. The cottage was equipped with everything we could possibly need for our holiday, the garden was very pretty, and we hope to go back!
