We have just returned from the Riverside Hotel and cannot praise it highly enough. Everything about the hotel is perfect and the owners are a lovely couple who go out of there way to make your stay a lovely one. The breakfast is scrumptious and really sets you up for the day.Little homely touches throughout the hotel are so sweet and make your holiday special. Our room was delightful and spotless. Even though we only stayed for two nights our towels were changed, the room was cleaned and goodies were left for us to eat and drink. We have already made another booking.

Just returned back from Ambleside after staying at our favourite B&B - Riverside. We've been back year after year and find our stay was as enjoyable as ever. Brenda and Dave are very warm, courteous and hospitable hosts. They provide excellent accommodation, it's spotlessly clean and has everything you could wish for! We enjoy their superb breakfasts and home made bread which is 'to die for' We've stayed at other B&B's and hotels in Ambleside but don't rate any of them as high as Riverside; we can't wait until our next visit !

A fantastically warm welcome waits the guests at this excellent small family-run hotel in a perfect, quiet location just on the edge of Ambleside. Spotlessly clean and superbly appointed bedrooms and lounge and breakfasts to die for! The nice extra touch of candles and nightlights on the outside steps and in the lounge liighten even the darkest, wettest Lakeland evenings. So much help and information about the surrounding area and facilities effortlessly and willingly given by David and Brenda. The best B and B we have ever stayed in and we would highly recommend it to anyone who visits the Lake District. Wish we could have stayed longer but hope to return soon.

We first stayed at Riverside about 7 years ago, just after Dave and Brenda took over, and we have returned 3 or 4 times each year. We do visit other places so we have other benchmarks for judging by and this does seemthe perfect place to us (We shouldn't really be telling you as its only going to make our future bookings more difficult). The rooms are comfy, spotlessly clean and well appointed, the lounge warm and welcoming especially when the log fire is on. Brenda and Dave are friendly and attentive hosts with lots of advice on things to do - walks from the door, boat trips, where to eat - its a perfect base for exploring the Lakes (and even the Dales). One of our big highlights are Brenda's Breakfasts - which have won awards - and we can honestly say we have never had better anywhere else. We return again and again for a special relaxing, authentic and consistent experience - for us its the perfect place for the perfect holiday. B&N

Room Tip: Al the rooms are good - we've been in them all over the years

Our holiday - awful weather, car broke down on the way home !
But none of that really matters when staying at The Riverside.
Possibly the worst conditions I have ever walked in and the poorest visibilty were all forgotten when coming back to the B & B.It really does feel like home whilst you are there.Everyone is welcome and everyone's name and preferences are remembered.
They say it's the details that matter - well how about offering to stay up all night in case the river floods the car park and move your car in case it did (it didn't and it is very rare that it does).Drying out all your wet clothes properly.A delightful breakfast with all the options and ingredients locally sourced and lovingly explained.I challenge you not to to be tempted to buy some of the the jams, sauces or other products used and for sale in this establishment.
One of the more expensive options in the town and not the closest to the town centre but sometimes you have to make tiny sacrifices. You may find you have trouble booking a room but this is simply because they are almost always full and you only have to stay there one night to realise why - it is the best !

Room Tip: Only six rooms - there's no such thing as a "poor" room here.

Riverside was the best B&B we stayed in during a three week tour of England in July - and they were all good! Read the other reviews to see what they have to offer but to our mind the best features are the owners Brenda and David. The loving care they lavish on their guests cannot be matched

We stayed here for two nights at the end of a ten day Lake District holiday and chose the hotel based on all the great reviews. It's a charming place in a peaceful location and it rounded off our holiday perfectly.

Our room was very comfortable with a lovely wet room and delicious smelling, locally made toiletries. The breakfast was amazing both mornings with perfectly poached eggs and homemade toast, together with a robust Cumbrian cooked breakfast which really sets you up for the day.

However, the best thing about Riverside has to be the hosts, Dave and Brenda. They were so welcoming, helpful and kind. Basically, we won't hear a bad thing said about the place and plan to return again and again!
