“Faultless, best place to stay in lakes”
Reviewed 10 July 2013

Riverside is everything you would want from a great b&b and far more. The location is perfect, just a 5 minute stroll to Ambleside and set in a peaceful spot just opposite the river. Brenda and Dave are perfect hosts, nothing is too much trouble and you feel like you are staying with friends. Breakfasts are excellent, with a fantastic choice of healthy fresh fruit salads, smoothies and delicious home-made bread or locally produced bacon and sausages for the full English. The rooms are spotlessly clean and stocked with lakes produced, environmentally friendly toiletries. We've been coming for over 10 years and wouldn't dream of staying anywhere else.

We have just returned from 2 nights stay at Riverside B&B in Ambleside. We can not thank Dave & Brenda enough for the hospitality they showed to us whilst we were there. The room was extremely comfortable and the breakfast amazing. We have stayed in many B&B's over the years and would rate this as the best of them all - many thanks for a wonderful stay and hope to see you again soon. Vicki & Les (Queensland, Australia)

We were lucky to find a vacancy at this hotel for a reunion with old friends. Everything about the hotel, from warm welcome, through local advice, terrific breakfast and comfortable rooms is exactly what you would expect from a five-star hotel - but seldom actually find. The Riverside, however, delivers exactly on the standards expected. The rooms are spotless and tidy, well appointed and (relatively) spacious. The bathroom was cleaner and brighter than I have ever seen - even in a showroom.

Dave and Brenda are wonderful hosts and obviously keen supporters of local businesses, farms and quality food suppliers. Did I mention the breakfasts? Delicious! And all made with locally sourced ingredients - food miles amounting to a tiny carbon fingerprint rather than footprint.

In all I must admit to being entirely impressed with The Riverside and wish that we had stayed longer and had more time to enjoy the gardens and sitting room (amply supplied with books, magazines and DVDs for guests' use).

Lovelly people, gorgeous location, fabulous stay. Did I mention the breakfasts?

We chose Riverside Hotel for a four-night stay, based on excellent reviews and were thrilled to find that it more than lived up to our expectations. Riverside has the peace and tranquility of a remote hide-away, yet Ambleside, a very pretty village, is only a 10 minute, very pleasant stroll over a small stone bridge and across a lovely park.

David and Brenda warmly welcomed us to their beautiful home, which is situated on a small lane beside a tree-lined babbling river. Ducks and small birds visit the pretty garden and the fell rises steeply behind the house. David's excellent instructions made it easy to find and parking is available right outside.

The guest lounge room is full of books, detailed maps for walking or hiking and information on the various attractions in the Lake District. All are available for guests to borrow. A comment book recording guests' experiences in local restaurants was a fabulous resource. David is a mine of information and his helpful advice regarding walks, excellent pubs, restaurants and local attractions was extremely welcome and helped to make our stay particularly special.

Breakfasts were absolutely beautiful, included homemade breads and preserves, and were accompanied by a great choice of music softly playing in the background. Walking was mandatory after such indulgence. As we were travelling with our daughter, we were in the spotlessly clean triple-room overlooking the pretty back garden, which featured an enormous bathroom facing the river.

The warmth of David and Brenda, the beautiful location and the wonderful house make Riverside an outstanding B&B.

We have just returned from a long weekend stay at Riverside and we can honestly say it's the best B&B we have ever stayed at.
There might be cheaper B&B's out there but "you get's what you pay for" is what comes to mind, and at the Riverside, we feel we really got value for money. It's a B&B so don't expect enormous rooms, room service and mini-bars but, given my experience of staying in hotels, I'd swap any of them for the friendliness and comfort of the Riverside
The highlights:-
• The breakfast each morning was delicious and more than set us up for our days walking
• The whole place was spotless
• The location was perfect. Only a ten minute stroll from town and yet had the peace and tranquility of a remote hideaway
• Dave and Brenda were the perfect hosts. Always on hand to answer questions and provide recommendations to make our stay that much more special.

The hosts, David and Brenda are just fabulous, Riverside is superbly set up and, sits in an idyllic location amongst great scenery (trees, hills, vegetation and a river just across the road). Our room was well appointed and, a vast array of information is available about the lakes district. The breakfast is something worth waking up to in the morning, just delicious. This place is a must to stay at should you visit the Lakes District. Riverside is only a ten minute walk to Ambleside, a lovely small town with some very good restaurants. In summary, hats off to David and Brenda!
