Spent two nights at the hotel, room was spacious and nicely decorated, usual facilities. Staff very pleasant and professional. Bit quiet in the lounge area, easy walk to town. Breakfast was first class, dinner menu was wide ranging.

We recently spent a couple of nights at Rothay Manor. From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel welcome. Our room was beautifully appointed, clean and comfortable. We ate in the restaurant on both nights and were impressed with the quality and presentation of our meals which were delicious. Service was attentive without being intrusive. This is a place we definitely hope to return to.

We spent the Valentine weekend at Rothay Manor. There isn@t 1 bad thing to say about this hotel. The welcome was great, as we were arriving late we arranged sandwiches on arrival and they were brought to us without asking the whole organization of this hotel is fantastic.

The rooms were lovely, immaculately clean and the bed comfortable. They provide proper tea making facilities which I have noticed a lot of hotels are phasing out. The rooms were cleaned daily and toiletries and tea making items replaced.

We had booked on a special offer and had 2 evening meals in the hotel, although the menu choice was not extensive I found choices to suit me, although I am quite fussy eater. The food itself was gorgeous, well prepared from fresh ingredients and truly tasty. My partner doesn't usually enjoy desserts but he definitely did here.

The breakfast choice was good, with a choice of cereals, fruit and yoghurts. And yes freshly squeezed orange juice! The cooked breakfast menu was good with individual tasted being taken into account and a great choice, Order the freshly baked croissants they are delicious. The breakfast is cooked individually and the food was hot and good.

We are already onsidering booking for the summer. 5 stars from us

My partner and I stayed at Rothay Manor recently on a discount rate. We found the service, food and acoomodation all of a very high standard. The staff were pleasant and very professional, the lounge area is lovely warm and inviting afetr a walk in the rain and staff offered to dry off our boots and coats. On leaving I left my iphone plug and cable and rang to check if it was still in the room. The manager went far beyond customer service expectations, sending it back to me at a cost to the Hotel. Embarassingly I now know the cost of replacemet if very low so feel indebited for wasting their time. We will definately return to this lovely Hotel with excellant food and hospitality. From the moment we arrived we were made very welcome. The room had recently been redecorated and was comfortable, warm and had everything we needed e.g. hair dryer, flat screen TV, tourist info etc

All of the meals were deliciously prepared and served by professional and caring staff.

Our room was cleaned promptly and daily with new bottles of complementary water left for us to enjoy.

The reception staff were very helpful and gave good advice about places to visit and provided us with towels and membership cards to the local spa.

Highly recommended.

Dear MrsMIles, Thank you for your review. I am very happy you had such an enjoyable stay. As you say the Groundfloor bedroom is adapted for those with accessibility needs, however as you saw it is also perfect those without such requirements. It is a large room, as are most at Rothay Manor and provides comfortable spacious accommodation. Once again many thanks for your review and we hope to see you again soon.

We found Rothay Manor via Travel Zoo, the deal was two night's accommodation with dinner and breakfast included. We arrived on the Friday in the afternoon and first impressions were great; there was snow on the ground outside and there was a lovely roaring log fire in the lounge and fresh cut flowers everywhere. The reception staff were so welcoming, even taking the trouble to take us up to the room and ensure we were happy with it.

The room and en-suite were spotlessly clean with all mod cons, the beds were comfortable and made up with sheets and blankets which made a nice change from duvets! Plenty of storage space too. I believe that each room was decorated differently which made the room feel very personal.

Something I have not seen before was that they had the latest editions of a large number of different magazines (Tatler, Country Life, Cosmopolitan etc...) distributed around the place which you could pick up and read at will. This was in addition to well stocked bookcases. They also had a large selection of games in the lounge. Papers could be ordered in advance to be ready for you at breakfast time.

Service in the restaurant was excellent, very efficient without being impersonal. I noticed that they often went out of their way to ensure guests got exactly what they wanted i.e. by encouraging people to sample different wines before choosing a glass, and they had an impressive knowledge of the menu. The dinner menu was interesting with plenty of choice and large portions. A favourite was definitely lamb presented in three ways, yummy!. Good selection of drinks too. Breakfasts were ample with lots of options; buffet bar with cereal/ fruits etc, porridge, traditional Cumbrian cooked breakfast.... and some interesting optional extras like smoked haddock (and on Sunday Smoked Salmon and scrambled eggs).

The hotel is in walking distance of Windemere lake and about 5 minutes walk to the centre of Ambleside - a perfect location for many mountain walks (inc Fairfield Round).

We felt this was an excellent value stay and we were absolutely treated like royalty! I have no doubt that we would go back there again.
