We stayed here a couple of years ago for 2 nights, we really enjoyed our stay - so this time booked an extra night. Lovely room, great food. Staff friendly and efficient. Tried to book for one Saturday night in April, as a special treat on our way back to Wiltshire from Scotland, but sadly they don't take single night bookings on Saturday nights. Sad as we can't afford the necessary time off work to stay longer - or we certainly would!

1st class service all round. Food quality excellent as was the choice. Dealing with my wife's foods allergy was done with utmost care (more than can be said of many other restaurants in the U.K.).
Great evening dining with friends. Not the cheapest but QUALITY is what you pay for and what we got.

Have just returned from afternoon tea at Rothay Manor as a birthday treat for a wheelchair bound elderly relative. From our arrival the attention was exceptional. The food selection was wonderful, fresh and ample as was the tea andcoffee choice. As others have commented, the cling film over the sandwiches was a bit of a disappointment but no major problem. We had asked if a birthday cake could be provided and this duly arrived, chocolate sponge and nicely decorated and to our surprise not charged as an extra on the bill! Thank you Rothay I am sure we will be back.

The standard of accommodation is excellent. The location is a five minute walk from the centre of Ambleside or similar distance to the Ambleside ferry terminal.

The food is first class with good selection of wines from house wines £19 per bottle to fine wines.

Free use of Leisure facilities at the Salutation Hotel (centre of Ambleside) which are excellent, gym, pool, sauna, steam room and outdoor hot tub. Towels and locker key available from Rothay Manor, just ask at reception

We stayed here 14th and 15th Feb 2013. The staff at the Rothay are welcoming, friendly and efficient; the service is very good. The room allocated to us was pleasant and comfortable and cleaned and tidied each morning before we returned from an excellent breakfast. The dining room is a little on the drab side and lacks ambiance somewhat but the food and service in it is of a very hight standard so don't be tempted to go in search of a restaurant as you won't find better food. The only slight niggle ( my partner's) is that eggs benedict wasn't on the breakfast menu but you can' have everything! We will be very happy to return.
