Owner description: Lake Windermere ends around one mile short of Ambleside at Waterhead, and can come as a shock to boat passengers expecting to be in the town. But don't worry! There is an Electric Bus that take you into the centre of Ambleside. It is well worth the trip. The bus stops next to the world famous; Ambleside Sheepskins. If you decide to pop in to Ambleside Sheepskins, you might be lucky and bump into the odd celebrity or two shopping. Anything Sheepskin can be found in there 2 high street shops, boasting the best selection of sheepskin slippers, sheepskin rugs, cowhide rugs, reindeer skins in the UK. As well as the Local Herdwick Sheepskin rugs. They also offer to post your goods if you can not carry them back home with you. If you walk a further 300 yards up the road you will come across the best deli in the village, Stockghyll Fine Foods, takeaway pies, sandwiches & sweets - highly recommended! For walking and outdoor gear visit Cunninghams around the corner. Cunningham's was established in 1971 by Stewart Cunningham, an Ambleside lad who spent his early years on the fells in the Lake District. He opened the Ambleside store to meet the needs of the many walkers drawn to the Lakes. He has watched the technology evolve over the years from Ventile jackets and canvas rucksacks to the advent of Gore-tex and other fabric technologies. Cunningham's now has six stores across England, Scotland and Wales.

We stayed for 3 nights in a Luxury Lake View Room. Every attention to detail had been taken with the room. The snacks/drinks provided were all superb. The bed was very luxurious and comfortable. We took our dog with us and 2 bowls and a bed had been put in the room for her. We were allowed to have all our meals in the bar so that she could stay with us at all times. We really appreciated the fact that everybody made us feel so welcome with the dog. The food was to die for and the service exceptional. Every member of staff that we came across seemed to be enjoying their job and went out of their way to be friendly and helpful. We were lucky enough to have very warm weather during our stay which meant that the room was at times, uncomfortably warm even with the window opened. The coffee machine in the room was excellent. The 'turn down' service was a bit hit and miss. On the first night it was superb with chocolates left on the bed, coffee replenished etc. the second night there was just one chocolate left in the middle of the bed. It was as if someone had left in a hurry! The third night we did not receive a turn down service at all and had to go to reception and ask for more coffee. So not quite sure what happened here. However these are very small gripes for what was otherwise a most superb stay. We would not hesitate to return to the hotel.

Almost a mini suburb to Ambleside with a couple of hotels and bars for food and drinks. The pier for boats to Windermere Bowness and further is here and if you have the energy, you can hire a row boat and take yourself out onto the lake; if you're lazy, you can hire small powered boats to do the work for you.
Nice starting point to get off round the lake and a starting point for the walks back to Ambleside.

Excellent personal service and very good food.right on Lake Windermere ,within easy walk of the lovely town of Ambleside. Choose a luxury lake view room and you won't be disappointed. Lake steamers sail regularly from opposite the hotel. Parking outside or in the car park is always easy . Although by the road, there is no noise at night .
