“So perfect we made this hotel our wedding venue!!”
Reviewed 2 July 2012

From the minute you arrive in to the langdale valley you are struck by pure beauty...and this hotel is the perfect place to stay. This is a small (22 rooms) family run hotel. The welcome is so warm, the staff cannot do enough for you and the food is second to non. those who prefer contemporary style hotels may not appreciate the rustic rooms or decor but the whole place is very clean, comfortable, the views just stunning and the whole place just fits in this valley. There is a brill walkers bar attached (serving v good pub food) Perfect location for walks to the pikes and for beautiful valley walks. We came here 7 years ago and fell in love with it's charm so much we had our wedding reception here. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough, if you are looking for an authentic lakes experience this is it... Thanks Becky and staff...this review is 10 months late but we will see you for our one year anniversary in august :)

Stayed several times but only in 'dog rooms'. These two rooms are in the process of renovation so tired appearance will soon be sorted out. However even without improvement they were clean and quiet. Location superb with a good restaurant. Only not enjoyed one meal and that was a bar meal. All restaurant meals have been very enjoyable and staff were happy to lay a table in the bar area so we could have our dog by us at meal times. Breakfast very tasty and substantial.

We stayed at this hotel one night as a stopover on the Cumbrian way walk.
Good points: Fantastic location with good views. Free WIFI. Good breakfast
Bad points: Very expensive - effectively London pices. Cramped/small room. TV didn't work (either cable or air).

Thank you on your comments and glad you enjoyed your stay with us. We apologise about the lack of TV but on the weekend previous to your stay we had gale force winds that affected our satellite , the problem was fixed on the 26th but too late for your stay.

A little tricky to find but well worth the effort. We stayed for 2 nights in the family room (5 year old boy). The room was spacious had great views and was well separated from other guests, definitely recommended.
Breakfasts were very good, Kippers being a highlight!
Walks around the area are good for kids and adults.
Staff and owners were friendly and on the last day they put on an early breakfast and made Bacon sandwiches for us to take with us.

Room Tip: Family rooms are good for families!

This is a terrific location for hiking the Langdale Valley. There are many hikes and walks that start literally out the back door. We came for the four day bank holiday and had a great time. The staff are very friendly and the breakfast included in our rate was big, hot and cooked to order--- the perfect thing to keep you going during a long hike. However, the hotel itself has seen better days, our room was teeny tiny even by Europe standards (room 9). The shower water pressure was lacking and the hot water was intermittent. maybe this room was meant to be a single? We didn't eat in the restaurant (too pricey for us) but the bar food was hit and miss, the nachos and guacamole were very nice but the soup and steak was just ok. We ate most of our meals at the sickle tavern across the driveway-- good selection of ales, fun atmosphere and good food. Be sure to check it out!

Thank you for your comments and glad to hear you enjoyed bank holiday in the Langdale valley. We thouroughly enjoyed our outside music with Fiona on saturday and Paul Dean on Sunday and our fist BBQ was a great success.
We are constantly refurbishing the hotel, we only have 3 bedrooms to update, they will all then be finished to a great standard, the hall and stairs are to be done early 2013. I was sorry to hear that you were not happy with our bar food, if complaints are made they are acted upon straight away.

While walking the Cumbria Way we were looking forward to a special stay in a superior room including dinner. Unfortunately we happened to pick a very hot day and our room, while very comfortable and spacious was baking for the whole of our stay. The only fresh air came from a tiny 70cms by 35cms window. The bedding is only a duvet so we had to try to sleep with no bed covering. Most disappointing was the shower water pressure disappearing for a considerable period during peak shower time - unacceptable and unfortunate when you are half way through (as reported in our guest comments to the hotel).
The 5 course dinner included as part of the DBB was nice (expensive) but very strange (and uncomfortable) to not be able to enter the restaurant and order - rather to order in the lounge (when the person serving has finished dealing with all prior guests) and wait on a summons to the table. I'm not sure why the process that every other restaurant follows needs to be changed.

Thank you for your comments, the weather was exceptionally hot for us (32 degrees) so duvets were to hot but sheets and blankets are available on request as mentioned in our hotel information pack. The water can some times be a little eratic, our hotel water comes from the tarn and through filtrations systems etc, if the filters are blocked the pressure will go down, we are not aware of the problems until we are told and we act upon it strainght away.
We take dinner orders with guests choosen times to dine in the lounges so our guests can have a drink at there leisure before dinner.

Ideally situated for a wide variety of challenging walks from the doorstep, my husband and I stayed for a lovely weekend earlier this month.

We'd booked a dog room, taking 2 sizeable border collies with us, and were really pleased with our room (think it was no. 3!). It had obviously just been refurbished, to a good standard, with new sensible carpet. Only drawback was lack of shower (or even a bath mixer tap) - bathrooms obviously vary throughout the hotel so would advise giving your preference on booking. However, we were very happy with the room overall.

First time in a hotel with the dogs for us so weren't sure what to expect - luckily the weather was beautiful for our stay so the dogs could dry off outside before we took them in, otherwise it could all have got a bit smelly! We ate in the Walkers Bar where they could sit with us - we'd booked for dinner B&B and thought we were eating the same menu as the main dining room (dogs understandably not allowed) but it all caused some confusion when checking out due to different dinner rates between the two dining areas. I'm sure Rebecca can explain(!) but, again, perhaps something to clarify when you book with dogs, i.e. where you expect to eat and what rate you wish to book.

Lovely stay, thanks very much...

Thanks for your lovely comments, room 3 has just been re furbished and lovely comments have been made by those who have stayed in it. We are refurbing another room next week.
Our new policy is that dogs are not to be left on there own in the room, but if guests wish to take dinner we will happily set a table in the bar lounge and well behaved dogs are most welcome in there.Sorry about the confusion with the bill, we left on dbb tariif not on b&b only.
The weather has been great since you left so long may it continue!!
Hope to see you again soon.
