We are experienced fell walkers, in our retirement and very familiar with the rest of the Lake District. We eventually decided to try the Langdales, by way of a change, on the recommendation of an artist neighbour who goes there several times a year to paint. Who could fail to be enchanted by the location. Our room at the hotel was very comfortable and kept in immaculate condition while we were there. The staff were all smiling, attentive, friendly and efficient. Breakfast is a particularly delightful experience and the food at the hotel is generally superb. After a days exploring the local peaks we tended to opt for bar meals in the evening, rather than book into the restaurant but the standard is still very high. We look forward to another visit as soon as possible. Thanks to all the staff for making us feel so welcome and making our stay such a pleasant experience. Graham and Linda Phoenix.

Room Tip: We have only been once but our room on the first floor overlooking the enclosed lawn area was very q...

Have stayed here previously and again found the staff to be friendly and efficient. Good breakfast but we ate at the pub next door which has great food so can't comment on the evening meals.

Room was nice but we were on the top floor which was very hot. We will choose a lower room next time.

Hotel has wifi and is in a great location

Thank you for finding the time to write such lovely comments.
It was extremely hot last weekend, the building does tend to keep the heat in as the walls are so thick, but it is lovely and toasty in the winter months.

See you soon.

I spent two nights last weekend at the New Dungeon Ghyll Hotel. I was extremely pleased - I agree with other reviewers that the staff is great, the food is very good, and the rates (food and room) are very reasonable. I stayed in a superior double room and found it to be spacious with a very comfortable bed. And the location is absolutely stunning. I definitely recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms on the front tend to get noise from the pub. The rooms on the top floor have a skylight in th...

stayed just up the road from the new dungeon ghyll hotel so decided to walk there for a drink and some food.inside was a little cramped but the food was great although a little expensive, the staff are very friendly and helpful, the hotel has a field for walkers to park their cars at five pound a day which is central for some great walks.

We travelled early April after the beautiful snow and the location was fantastic. A quite valley with stunning views. Unfortunately the hotel wasn’t great. It has been refurbished and the entrance and communal areas downstairs were modern, upstairs the corridors were awaiting refurb and although the bedroom had been done it was very small and lacked any colour/vibrancy. It just felt a bit depressing. The room was clean and the bathroom modern and warm but the bed was small and uncomfortable.

The breakfast was also disappointing, there wasn’t nearly enough to eat and the meat was of poor quality, so much so we skipped the second day and went elsewhere. The dining room was quite old fashioned so we ate our evening meal at the pub over the way , this was ok for evening meals but again the food wasn’t fantastic. If you wish to get a taxi anywhere bear in mind it will be costly as you will be paying for them to drive all the way from Ambleside to collect you as the hotel is at the end of the valley.

You can buy small books with local walks in the valley which we followed and were very good. This is a great touch.

Thank you for your comments. As previously mentioned we are continually refurbishing the hotel, we have 3 more rooms and they are being decorated later this year and the corridors will be done next year, I am sorry the breakfast was not to your liking, the bacon and sausage are locally sourced and the black pudding is from the famous Bury black pudding company, we do only offer one of everything unless asked for more as we find that to be ample after the great choices of cereals, yoghurts, fruits, nuts and seeds and home made toast.
The walking books are a huge success and we are in the process of adding another to our collection.
Hope to see you another day

Last here around the same time last year, better weather this time, and also brought our daughter and her boyfriend for their first visit to this wonderful part of England.

As with all previous visits, the staff are very friendly and helpful, food was up to the usual high standard, and the rooms were excellent. The wife and I stayed in room 1, on the ground floor at the back of the hotel, definitely one of the best rooms.....lovely and quiet.

Huge cooked breakfasts were enough to keep us going all day, with several new walks undertaken, all straight from the hotel, so no worries about having to find a parking place before starting a stroll/hike/climb.

Added advantage of this hotel is having the National Trust pub, the Sticklebarn, just across the driveway, which is worth a visit if you fancy sampling some other Lake District beers, and the Old Dungeon Ghyll is just a 20 minute stroll along the rideside for yet more beer variety!

Having stayed here 4 times now, it won't be our last....we've still got a few more summits to climb!!

Room Tip: Room 1 - very quiet, plus the bathroom has a bath, great for soaking those aching muscles after a da...
