Scenes from Hotel were breathe taking. There was ample car parking space at the rear of the hotel.

Room was basic and adequate. The bed was comfortable enough.

Food from the bar was tasty. Nothing is better than sipping locally produced ale after a long day out trekking with the mountain on your horizon.

Would return purely because of its location, probably not with young family members.

I decided to stay here with my son, just me and him...Thought it would be straight forward to book
and reletivly cheap. i booked online and was quoted a price. however after ringing the NDG the lady said the the booking was going to be much more money as the websites hadnt been set up properly.
i thought this annoying to be told that as to have children stay with you there has to be 2 paying adults with you....what do you do if you have couples who are separated and father and son just want to get away together..not in my case but just making the point. anyway back to my point with the change of price, the lady decided to honour my booking price in the end as this is what there website quoted. When we got in our room we were unlucky enough to pass the newly refurbished section of the hotel, i must say the new deco was lovely and hope to be complete by the time we stay again.
Our room was ok, albeit a bit dated on deco but things look to be changing for the better
The breakfast was faultless ,very pleasant and the full english is 5 star...the bread for toast was lovely and butter very nice.
The car park a bit on the small side never sure whether you will get a spot if you return late.
We were non smokers, i wish they would ban smoking as when me and my boy were playing football on the gardens we could smeel the foul smell. The gardens are lovely by the way and kept well. The smell of efluent however was not nice ,im guessing from the tanks that are nearby. may be they need sealing properly.
All in all a great stay, just wish the website would be more organised and be mindful of father and sons being a family to...

Room Tip: Try and get in a refurbished room if you can

Lovely clean, spacious room with all mod cons which is nice to find in an older building and large bathroom with good hot shower plus nice attached gardens. Excellent packed lunch with a bit of variety. Good food and seating outside great with Pike of Stickle towering over you I don't think you will find a much better view in the Lakes and nice breakfast in the morning. Bathroom extractor fans a bit noisy but they shut off on a night so no real problem if you are out all day. Staff fine. The walkers bar does not have the same character as the Old Dungeon Ghyll but it is literally only 15 minutes down the road for a visit and if you like your home comforts the New Dungeon Ghyll will be for you. Yep one of those hotels you have to visit and I will be back probably quite soon.

this really has to be one of my favourite hotels - the perfect setting for walking in the Langdales. We stayed for one night - the room and breakfast both excellent, a little more expensive than staying in Ambleside but then it is worth it for the location. Room and bathroom were both very clean, plently of amenities, comfy bed and lovely view. The walkers bar is excellent, we eat there. The wifi is complementary but a little patchy around the hotel, no phone signal but sometimes that is a blessing. The staff were excellent, attentive, polite and helpful. Will definitely come here again. Only negative was the packed lunch which was too expensive for what it was, but then there are no shops around - better to eat more breakfast and have your own snacks.

Room Tip: they're all good!

Popped in here for a bite to eat whilst staying next door at Mellbeck Farm. Good food, reasonably priced and served with a smile. We eat in the bar which had a lovely atmosphere. Would imagine it would be a lovely place to stay as it is in such a beautiful setting under the Langdales.

The service was great, we were a pain in that my partner had to go back to our hotel for something. Making the chef and 7 orders out of sink... Food was great fresh, hot and tasty, we did miss having dessert by 10 minutes which was a shame. We couldn't tell if the chef was hurried or not, and the young chap who served us was very friendly and polite. Will defiantly come back and maybe even stay
