“Comfortable, relaxing hotel.”
Reviewed 1 June 2014

We thoroughly enjoyed our two night walking break at this hotel. It isn't luxurious, but it is generally clean, friendly and comfortable and the location is outstanding. We were blessed with warm weather which helped.
The bed was very comfortable and the location is so peaceful that we slept very well. The guest lounge was also very comfortable. The food varied: the first night my fish was generous but tasteless, nothing I could have complained about but unmemorable. The second night I chose the vegetarian lasagne and salad which was good and very generous. We didn't eat in the restaurant, only the bar.
The price was fair. If you want luxury this isn't for you but if you want a comfortable, friendly hotel in an outstanding location...this is it. They also have two dog friendly rooms, I wish they had more, we would have liked to have taken our dogs but weren't able to. We may well return.

Room Tip: Our room was very comfortable (number 4) and overlooked the garden at the back which was very pleasa...

had lunch on 27/5/14 . Other places in the area could learn a lot from them. good drink ,good food, great staff. PERFECT. Will be going back. Why do other places get it so wrong , maybe because they don't care about regular custom and only need to rely on visitors that maybe won't be returning anyway.

We were staying at the Great Langdale Bunkhouse which had no cooking facilities. The next door pub (National Trust) weren't very helpful so we wandered to the walker's bar and promptly fell in love with it. welcoming, friendly, helpful and yum food. Wholesome fare for walkers. No worries about muddy boots. The bar staff helped us with ongoing travel arrangements too!

we expected to not be able to get a table but even in half term were happily able to sit for a few hours which was great as there is nowhere to do that in bunkbarn accommodation. We had 2 evening meals and 2 breakfasts here. they were even going to make us packed lunches but we ended up not needing the.

This was our first stay at the NDG, Room4, Ok its not the Ritz. but what it is ,is honestly good value for money. All the staff were very friendly, efficient and nothing too much trouble. My thanks to Rebecca, Diane, Ursula and all the other staff whose names were not sure of for making our 5 day break very memorable for all the right reasons. not forgetting Ian the chef and his team in the kitchen, thoroughly enjoyed our meals as well. so good booked another stay in November2014.

Called in with friends bank holiday weekend - what a damm good place. We where entertained by a lovely lady which actually made the night. A must, but plan to be here for several drinks! We even returned next morning for a full english, little on the expensive side but ok.

Staff great and make the place, so thank you too the 2 staff members who gave us their seats for us on a busy night.

I think this was our 12th stay at the NDG and enjoy it more each time. We always book room 5 with the wonderful old tree outside.
The staff are always superb - friendly - efficient and like 'the head of all Rebecca' nothing is too much trouble for them. Food simply magnificent in the dining room - the diet starts tomorrow!
I am a former local - now exiled elsewhere - and this hotel is in imho - the ideal location - the views being magnificent and has a selection of walks - mild to more challenging, right outside the front door..
Needless to say perhaps - we rebooked for next year before leaving the hotel. Malcolm and Chrissie H.

We have stayed at this Hotel several times over the years. The location is idyllic - fabulous walks direct from the door. We upgraded our room when booking to ensure we had good views and good decor etc. The room was clean, in good order with a large shower with loads of hot water, We ate in the Walkers Bar and can honestly say that the food was very good - much better than we had previously experienced in there. The breakfasts are delicious - well cooked and everywhere is very clean. The Staff at the Hotel are very welcoming, polite and courteous and are a credit to the Management - well done.

All in all, a great few days in a perfect location. It rained heavily for one day, but there is nothing anyone can do about that!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with good views and upgrade if you are able to.
