Good beer, fantastic scotch eggs and pork pies, no jukebox...what more do you want? Eat somewhere else in Ambleside, then pop here for an evening of beery contentment

I generally visit the Golden Rule on each trip to Ambleside.

It is totally hidden away from the hustle and bustle of Ambleside and you may not know it was even there if you didn't hear about it first.

Worth checking out though if you like your ale.

There were around 6 wickets on when I was there earlier this week. I was drinking the Double Hop at 4.8% which was lovely. The pub is nice enough inside, but if the sun shines then the beer garden at the back of the pub is a good sun trap with plenty of seats and benches.

Check it out.

Returned to Ambleside after a few years away and was pleased to see this pub was still around.

Lovely staff who are there whether its a drink required after a heavy days walking or an evenings relaxation. Choice of beer was excellent, gorgeous beer garden out back for relaxing in the sun, hidden away from all the hustle and bustle and not badly priced. Will definitely return again next time we're in Ambleside.

Well worth tracking this gem down. Super little pub with very friendly staff and an excellent range of draught beers on tap. Be sure to try the 3 x 1/3 pint samples.
I don't think they do food here, so pop in the Unicorn round the corner for a bite to eat first.
Recommended.

This is on the roundabout that is the start of "the struggle" up to the top of kirkstone pass. Really nice traditional Lakeland pub with local beers and a nice atmosphere. Worth a visit
