“Authentic Thai food and great restaurant.”
Reviewed 27 May 2012 via mobile

A great selection on the menu. Lovely food; delicious sweet corn pancakes and duck spring rolls to start and curry and stir fry full of fresh ingredients as a main. Great service from friendly staff and very reasonably priced. We were there on a Saturday night and lost count of the number of people who were turned away because they hadn't booked, so my advice would be if you want to make sure you can get a table, book the day before!

“You must try this restaurant”
Reviewed 24 May 2012

In January we visited the Jintana restaurant and really enjoyed the meal, so when we were back in the Lakes District in May we thought we would visit again. On Thursday 15th of May we called just after 5pm and had the "early doors" menu. Excellent value 2 courses for £12.95 and such a good selection of meals to choose from unfortunately too full to take advantage of the 3 courses for £14.95.
We will definately visit again.

“Little gem”
Reviewed 23 May 2012

I visited Jintana in Ambleside earlier in May after a long day walking. We had booked on Friday evening which was a good think as the restaurant was full and turning people away from about 7pm. The service was excellent, staff were knowledgeable and courteous which help contribute to the atmosphere. In my experience Thai food in the UK is either very good or poor - fortunately, in this instance it is at the right end of the scale. In all of the dishes the flavours came through and portions were just right. Drinks were not overpriced and we did not feel rushed. I think booking is essential for the weekends - ask for one of the low tables at the back when you do.

“Surprisingly good!”
Reviewed 21 May 2012

Why it should be a surprise to find a decent Thai restaurant in a small Lakeside village I don't know, but it was and Jintana was great!

You know when you get a craving for something and nothing else will quite do...well that's what happened to us and in this case it was Thai! So much so, when we didn't get a table on arrival (we hadn't booked, so not their fault at all) but were offered a later one, we accepted...a quick bottle of wine at Lucy's of Ambleside (also v.good) later and we were back for our food.

Our low expectation (which was completely in our own heads I might add) was quickly quashed by some very tasty food indeed...I was actually upset having to leave the last few mouthfuls and as a bit of over-ordering on our part meant we just couldn't finish it all.

So...definitely worth a visit if Fish 'n' Chips just isn't doing it for you!

“Don't go there”
Reviewed 19 May 2012 via mobile

Worst meal I have ever had. I have tried both Thai restaurants in Ambleside and this was by far the worst. Not authentic. Not spicy enough. More Chinese like. I wouldn't recommend it. If you want an authentic Thai meal in Ambleside, go to Doi Intanon.

Thank you for your review.
We have contacted you directly several times to get some more details on your review, but have not had a reply. Whilst we appreciate both positive and constructive feedback, we are unable to offer much in the way of reply to your review and your statement of ‘Worst meal’ as it is lacking any detail about service, dishes, atmosphere etc.
We appreciate that everyone will have differing opinions of both Thai restaurants in Ambleside but note that whilst you use this complaint to promote Doi Intanon you have not as yet written a review of you your dining experience there?
In brief, our Team of Thai chefs use authentic Thai ingredients and even go as far as having certain fresh herbs flown over from Thailand weekly when they cannot be sourced locally. We always check tables to make sure everything is ok with your meal and do what we can to cook any dish to your personal taste and spiciness.
We would not label our restaurant or menu ‘Chinese like’ to use your phrase. We have a large number of happy and returning guests and hope that any trip advisor member reading this review will make their own mind up to its authenticity and usefulness on this site.
