“Perfect place for short break in the Lakes!”
Reviewed 15 July 2013

If we decide to have a weekend in the Lake District, we find ourselves re-booking at the Skelwith Bridge Hotel, even though there are other lovely places to try. It's perfect for us - very charming with a relaxing atmosphere. Nice rooms, excellent breakfast and evening meals, friendly staff. They have got everything right in our opinion. We stayed last weekend in the fabulous sunshine. It was a short drive from the Langdale Pikes, and we had a good day climbing up to Pavey Ark. We sat at the top taking in the magnificent scenery and ate the packed lunch supplied by the hotel. It was nice to relax in the jacuzzi bath when we got back, then have a sparkling wine in the peaceful front garden, before we had an excellent dinner, followed by coffee and mints in the lounge, where we sat reading for a while. I can't think of a better way to spend a well earned weekend away from home. Hope you enjoy as much as we did ! :)

I visit this hotel twice a year (Spring and Autumn) for a few days' walking in The Lakes. For many years it has provided good quality service, accommodation and food and my most recent visit has been no exception. The core staff have been there for many years and the newer bar staff, waiters (waitresses) and admin personnel all fit in well with what is, in effect, a family atmosphere.
Located on The Cumbrian Way, it is in an excellent position for low level walks in Great and Little Langdale, Grasmere and Rydal and also for the more challenging walks to Coniston, Scafell etc.
The dinner, bed and breakfast package is very good value and the meals are excellent and plentiful. The hotel also has a bar attached which serves bar snacks all day. The beer, which is locally brewed, is also very good, especially after a day on the fells.
The hotel also has a very good drying room which was not needed on this latest trip but which has proved to be very invaluable in the past

This is my first visit to the Skelwith this year after visiting twice last year. Again this was another enjoyable trip. I was in a small double room which was fine for me on my own (would be a bit of a squeeze if there was two of you though and all your walking gear). My parents were in a luxury double which was much larger.

The breakfasts were excellent and the dinner was also great, if a bit hit and miss at times but that might have been me being adventurous and trying new things!

Room Tip: Worth paying for the luxury double, especially a jacuzzi room!

Never stayed before so had no idea what to expect. Wow was I in for a surprise. £57 Dinner, Bed and Breakfast, in my opinion its outstanding value for money. Room was great, single bed, (fine as me and friend were just walking in the hills around the Langdale valley) everything you need and spotlessly clean, free bottle of water also. Food was outstanding, great choice, steaming hot and beautiful, breakfast was just as nice and great service all around. Board games (Scrabbleathon on the first night, we stayed two) and a great friendly atmosphere. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend and will defiantly be going back. I have the unfortunate experience of staying in London hotels 2-3 nights a week; this hotel was my best hotel experience in years. Don’t get me wrong it isn't plush but for the money it’s fantastic and please don’t let that put you off.

A friendly, comfortable hotel with excellent meals and some lovely bedrooms. There is a comfortable Lounge and a cosy bar. There are some beautiful walks in the area so that you can arrive and leave your car in the car park for a few days while you explore on foot or by bus. The staff are helpful and will advise you on the local area. We return often.

Room Tip: A room on the top floor at the front has good views, but all rooms are good. Some have the added lu...

My husband and I recently had a fantastic weekend in Skelwith Bridge Hotel with our friends. We were thoroughly spoilt, thank you! We enjoyed the walking there and going to Ambleside shopping. We went to Lake Windermere for a visit. The views and walks at Ambleside are fantastic. Also, the hotel is dog friendly! We loved being able to retire to the lovely choices of lounges for drinks/coffee after dinner.
