“Soo comfortable and fabulous welcome”
Reviewed 27 July 2014

Really comfortable room, spacious, nice decor, really clean. Lots of thoughtful additions for a b&b, hair dryer, kettle etc, lovely soaps etc.

Good parking. It's nice when a b&b or hotel that is in a busy area says they have parking and you find they really do.

Great breakfast.

Location is great, right in the centre of Ambleside.

Great welcome, and so helpful with things to do/directions etc.

Room Tip: We were in 7, twin beds, view of the hills over Ambleside

We stayed for two nights, the rooms and hotel were very clean, and bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was excellent and plentiful (enough to last until your evening meal).
The Location is very central and very important in Ambleside there is good parking, This small hotels lives up to its billing, will visit again next year.

Room Tip: upper floor rooms have low ceilings

Chose this B and B from Trip Advisors previous reviews and it turned out to be excellent. Lovely large room on first floor, with King Size bed and extremely kind and hospitable hosts, very central to Ambleside which we needed and wonderful choice on the excellently cooked breakfasts. We have stayed in hotels all over the world where the choice wasn't as good as this (or as well cooked!). Overall spotlessly clean, and car park at the rear is so useful in Ambleside. Would always make this delightful hotel/BandB our first choice for a mini break or longer. This occasion was for three nights.

Room Tip: Perhaps a room on the rear of the house would be less noisy in the mornings. Road sweeper and refuse...

Perfectly located, good food, but our room was a bit small and tired looking. The bathroom was particularly tiny but everything in good working order.
Breakfast was good, would prefer fresh fruit juice to the cheaper 'from concentrate' version.
Locally hand made toiletries were very nice.
I agree with others that the 10.30
checkout seemed a bit early and the breakfast serving times a bit short. The staff were pleasant but not as friendly as in other places I stayed before.
Overall, a good and comfortable stay, but will try a different place to stay next time.

So sorry we didnt manage to meet all your expectations this time. Do please remember that you would have booked later and had one of the last rooms available. This room does have a small en-suite but is priced accordingly, even though you still have all the amenities that everyone else does including the spa facilities etc.
We are a guest house and not a hotel with more rooms and staff. So have to have the rooms ready for the new guests arriving, hence check out times cannot be any later to coincide with arrivals from 1pm.

Have just returned from a 2 night stay at Smallwood House. I stayed with my husband and our dog. We had a very nice twin room which was clean, smart and well equipped. The bathroom was immaculate with complimentary tioletries. Anthony and Christine were very friendly and helpful and all 3 of us were made very welcome. There was a lot to choose from at breakfast and the food was well presented and tasty. The Smallwood has it's own car park, which was a bonus. Ambleside is a lovely place. We had never been before but we would definitely go again. There is a fantastic park a couple of minutes' walk away where you can let your dog run about. Another bonus. Guests are able to use facilities at a nearby hotel, sauna and pool etc, but we did not take up that offer.Thank you Anthony and Christine for making our stay so enjoyable.

I have visited Ambleside since I was a small child with family and this year we decided to try out a new place to stay and I can safely say we were not disappointed! I loved the decor of the B&B with each room having it's own personality and fabulous complimentary toiletries making it a home away from home! The breakfast was delicious and Christine was fantastic in providing options to my dietary needs that I really felt catered for. The location is perfect with restaurants, the cinema and bars within 2 minutes walking distance so no need to worry about walking back late. My family had a comfortable and pleasant stay at this B&B and we are sure to come back next year!

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are quieter. There are passes to a local gym and pool in the village which are of...

We enjoyed a 3 night stay at the Smallwood, Anthony & Christine were very welcoming and helpful, lovely breakfast with a very good choice on offer. The rooms were large, beds comfortable, modern and spotless. Would highly recommend a stay here, has a great location and car parking as a bonus.
