“A great hotel beside Lake Windermere”
Reviewed 18 March 2012

The Regent Hotel is well worth looking at for a stay in the central Lakes area at Ambleside. The hotel has recently been renovated and is to a high standard. The layout is interesting with a mixture of some rooms in the main building, some in an annexe across a small courtyard and the Garden Rooms separate from the main building. The staff and service were very good. The breakfast menu was excellent with a good choice of food, including a vegetarian option of the Full English cooked breakfast. Dinner in the restaurant was of good quality and reasonable price. There was a pleasant atmosphere to the bar area and free WiFi available in the lounge/ bar area. The midweek special offers are worth looking out for and my wife and I stayed for 4 nights in a Garden Room "Superior Room" with free parking away from the road immediately outside our room. This was a cosy and quiet location to the rear of the hotel. We really enjoyed the stay.
The location at Waterhead, in Ambleside is ideal for exploring the central Lakes area by car, simply walking from the hotel to some great low and intermediate walks on Loughrigg Fell, Wansdale Fell and to nearby Grasmere or enjoying a cruise down Lake Windermere on the steamers that dock less than 100 yards from the hotel. We can recommend both the hotel and the location.

Room Tip: The Garden Rooms are separate from the main hotel building: they are quiet and of good size with lar...

Thank you for taking the time to write a review and such a good one! We are really please that you were impressed with all the refurbishments they do look good and have made such a difference and we are getting a lot of positive feedback from customers.

You booked one of the Garden rooms and by the sounds of it enjoyed their location, the privacy and quality they have to offer. Hopefully we will be able to welcome you back again soon.

Thanks again

We visited last Saturday and Sunday with two friends who recommended the Hotel. How impressive - the standards are equivalent to a five star Hotel we visit regularly in Madeira. The owners understand their business perfectly. The rooms, cleanliness, food and service were impeccable. The late breakfast a civilised addition to their portfolio of excellence. The Garden rooms are delightful in every respect and we are grateful to our friends for sharing this wonderful venue.

We have just returned from3 nights dinner bed and breakfast. We wish we could have stayed longer but unfortunatly had to return. We rarely find a hotel that has such high standards. The room was well equiped, warm and nice and clean on arrival. We were immediatly made to feel at home. All the staff were friendly. The food on every occassion was excellent. They were all well presented, very hot and very tasty. The menu offered a good choice and there was a special on every night. No one would leave feeling hungary and there were vegetables served in separate dishes, which is quite rare these days. There was plenty of choice for breakfasts and again faultless. There was plenty of lovely walks to do from Ambleside with stunning views.I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone.

Stayed in The Regent for 2 nights BB. Arrived a little earlier then check in but our room was ready. The Reception was very impressive and staff were extremely friendly, we were given a map of the local area and shown to our room.
Room was lovely- very cosy and clean with a view, although a little restricted of the lake, I didnt pay for a lake view. Bathroom had a Jacuzzi tub which was a treat that I was grateful for after a 9mile hike. Beds were very comfortable!!
Breakfast was amazing- Lots of choice and the staff were very attentive.
Location- About a 1mile walk into Ambelside centre. There are a couple of pubs/resturants close to the Regent but it's worth the walk into Ambleside for some lovely resturants (Recommend the Glasshouse) and some real ale pubs.
Would definately return!!

Lovely hotel. Stayed for 3 nights B&B. This is the 4th time we've stayed here but the first time we've seen the new extension. It all looks beautiful now, even better than it did with more places to relax in the bar. The staff were very friendly, couldn't have been more helpful and the huge breakfast set us up for the day. Really suited us that they serve it up till 12pm. The room was nice, had good views of the lake and was quiet. It had a TV with DVD player which was great as they have nearly 100 DVD to borrow at reception. Perfect after a long days walking.

Room Tip: We've found that the court yard room's walls were a bit thin but my parents have had no prob...

From the moment we arrived at the hotel, we found the staff helpful and friendly. The room was spacious and included several items such as iron & ironing board, hairdryer etc which was important. Our view was a little disappointing (of the road in front of the hotel) but that was the only reason for the 4 star rating. Breakfast was superb with so much variety on offer and very tasty too!
Would reccommend this to anyone who asked.

Having stayed here a few years ago the hotel has seen some changes....all for the better. We stayed for the valentines weekend package, the sparkling wine on arrival was a nice touch. The reception area and new bar area look fantastic and are a pleasure to be in. The rooms are of a good standard. The staff are friendly, professional and very attentive. Breakfast is very good with a good choice available. The only downside to the stay was the evening meal, the menu sounded excellent on paper and we expected good things however we were both left slightly underwhelmed. All in all this is a quality hotel and we will be back for another stay in the near future.
