“Great Hotel shame about the Weather!”
Reviewed 4 May 2013

This Hotel is Fantastic ! The public areas are lovely as was our room "The Sail Loft" The room and bathroom are clean, attractive and very comfortable and the view was great. If the weather had been better it would have been lovely sitting on the balcony looking out across Lake Windermere. The food was always hot and fresh and breakfast was individually made on order as was all the food. Scrambled Egg at breakfast is the best I have ever tasted at a Hotel! The staff we spoke to were all helpful and friendly, definitely recommend this hotel!

Room Tip: the Sail Loft is in our opinion the best Room as the view is great

Stayed for three nights at the end of April after searching the internet for hours looking for a reasonable hotel. We were not disppointed. First big tick is the ample car park, plenty of room. Second, it is situated within 50 metres of the Lake and having timed the walk of 15mins into Ambleside it is a great base to stay.
The hotel, although an old building has been decorated out in a very modern and pleasing decor. Drapes over the bed etc made it feel that bit different. All areas were immaculately clean. The staff, although mostly foreign (as in most hotels nowadays) were extremely helpful and the service was 100%. Breakfasts were really good with an ample choice of fruits and cooked meals. Dinner was very good also with a reasonable selection on the menu.
We would certainly return to this excellent hotel

Room Tip: Book in plenty of time!

Superb !! We stayed at the hotel for 2 nights dinner bed and breakfast Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th for my husbands birthday. We were very impressed, infact so much that we have just booked to return again, only this tme we want to stay for longer so we have booked a 4 night stay in the summer with friends. We stayed in garden room no 41. This room was very well appointed, very clean and spacious. As other guests have mentioned the garden rooms do over look the carpark, however I would'nt let this put you off as each room has a furnished patio and weather permitting allows a peaceful and tranquil place to sit. The hotel was beautifully decorated and modern. All staff were very friendly and helpful. Both breakfast and evening meal were lovely. The only very slight negative is that the time between starters and main courses was very minimal, which made the meals feel slightly rushed. You are encouraged to have a pre-dinner drink while perusing the menu and being served pre dinner canapes and then after dinner you can return to the bar where coffee and petit fois are served, this is a real special touch. All in all a lovely break, would definately recommend this hotel and really looking forward to returning in the summer. Waterhead Bay is a lovely picturesque part of Lake Windermere.

Room Tip: We checked out a standard room within the hotels main building before we left and this was also of a...

Booked this Hotel for 4nights Bed & Breakfast for my wife and I, and was also accompanied by our Son whilst his partner holidayed in sunnier climes with her mother and sister in Tenerife. This hotel has excellent standards, is clean and serves a good English full breakfast, I suppose one can always find some fault - I like Croissants with my breakfast but none were available!

A warning to guests deciding which room to stay in at this hotel, the Garden rooms although quite nice do not overlook a garden as you might expect, but a car park, and can only be reached from the main part of the hotel by crossing over the car park and then climbing 3 flights of stairs. This may be ok if you are young and fit, however those of us over 65 years old may find this difficult especially when when arriving and leaving with suitcases & Luggage etc (no assistance was offered with our luggage on arrival). Staying in some of the hotels Courtyard rooms also involves climbing steep stairs again uncovered and open to the elements!

More information placed on their Web Site would assist guests choosing what best suits their needs!

The other obvious negative staying in these rooms is if it is raining when dining it necessitates a walk across the car park with no cover. The Hotel Owners/Management could take a leaf out of York University Campus who provide covered walk ways between nearly all their buildings for students and staff.

We had dinner at the Regent's restaurant on our first nights stay and although food was of a fine standard, for two men both over 6.0 feet tall nouvelle cuisine sized portions do not satisfy appetites. I counted three green beans with two teaspoon sized portions of other puree vegetable(s) served up on a separate dish to accompany my main meal.

The free Wi-Fi provided by the hotel was good for the Lake District area, and a fridge was provided in my son's Court Yard room, but none was provided for my wife and I in our Garden Room. For the kind of money we were paying (quite pricey)to stay in what is classed as a three star hotel we did expect a fridge in our room, particularly as I am Diabetic and need to store medication although I was able to use our son's fridge.

Finally with the benefit of hindsight we would revisit this hotel taking more care over which room we reserved and a fridge is a must for us.
John Robles 28/4/2013.

We do encourage guests to write a review as the feedback really helps us to maintain our extremely high standards which we work hard to achieve, and as you can see from previous reviews the majority of our guests appreciate and can't wait to come and see us again.

We stayed 2 nights in a garden room which was tastefully decorated and spotlessly clean. The bathroom boasts a jacuzzi bath and modern fittings and our overall impression of the accommodation was better than expected. We found the staff more than obliging and friendly and indeed nothing was a bother to them. Breakfasts were varied and plentiful and the restaurant served evening meals to a very high standard. We would definitely return to this hotel in the future.

My husband booked two nights as a surprise for my 65th Birthday 18th April and our 39th Wedding Anniversary 19th April. Why the hotel only has three stars, I have no idea as in my opinion, it's definitely five star. We stayed in room 41 - a garden room, beautifully appointed with a Jacuzzi bath - pure bliss and white fluffy dressing gowns too. All of the staff were friendly and helpful in fact nothing was too much trouble. The decor in the hotel is exceptional. We ate in the Restaurant on both evenings and the food was superb. The food was beautifully presented and we struggled to eat it all.. Breakfast is served until midday and again the food was a delight, I would recommend this hotel to anyone and hope to visit again in the future.

Room Tip: I would definitely recommend a garden room.
