“Fantastic place to buy or stay in luxury timeshare lodges”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 February 2012

stayed there a great many times, during all seasons. we personally like Autumn time to stay, but each season brings its own positives. the estate is luxurious, although we have stayed and there have been problems with the facilities (sauna not working, swimming pool closed, dining room refurbished, etc), however the management do try to work quickly to correct this.
the area itself is a place of natural beauty. walking the area is a must, although a car is fairly essential, but not a necessity. there are quite a few places to eat on the estate including Purdeys Restaurant, a must for at least one evening meal. although there is a public house nearby, it is estate owned and so we don't feel there is a great deal of choice or price difference locally anymore. we tend to also go into Ambleside to try the local ale and food there. the estate has grown since we first went, some 20 years ago, and there have not been many changes, which is a good thing. the hotel rooms are very elegantlt themed and some have four poster beds, etc. we have stayed there several times but also like staying in the timeshare lodges. the only down side is that although a very rural country retreat, which lends itself to walking holidays, dogs are not welcome on the entrire estate.

This was the first time we have stayed at the Langdale Estate Hotel, having usually opted to stay in other hotels when in the Lakes. Having heard a few good reports I took advantage of a promotion and took my wife for her birthday. We stayed in a Fellside Signature Room which was nice and spacious, with a huge bed and large bathroom. Everything was present and correct, including free wifi in the room. The rooms are in lodges, Center Parc style, with a central reception and restaurant area and spa block. There are also timeshare apartments scattered throughout the estate. The standard is high. Hobson's bar is small but quite a nice place to have a drink. Breakfast in Purdey's was good. we didn't get time to try the Spa but it looked good, if a little crowded. The Brittania at Elterwater is a very short stroll away, as is the estate's own pub 'Wainwrights'. This part of the Lakes, and Elterwater and Langdale in particular, do get very busy, even outside of the school holidays in February but that's for a reason. This is a beautiful part of the world. I wouldn't say there was much to distinguish the Langdale from any other decent hotel in the Lakes but it is a good option that is unlikely to disappoint.

This review is for Purdeys restaurant as we were staying in a nearby cottage. I have been staying at langdale for some 23 years and have never been able to fault it at all. I have had all my happy and sad times here and it is without doubt my favourite place-however-i took some friends for a meal on mon 13th feb and omg what a change and not a good one. There is some sort of refurb going on which in my view is ridiculous but hey lets wait until it is finished before judging-3 ladies were told our table was ready and the waiter just walked ahead not even taking our drinks-then came the stone cold meal on a cold plate-we complained and he offered to heat it up (microwave) I would pay £3 for a micro meal not £25. One of the party had salmon very nice but smaller than the tail end i give to the dog when having salmon fillet. The total disinterest in our disatisfaction was astounding he simply deducted a discount from our bill but truly did not care whether we came back ever or not (does this man realise my heart was broken at being treated like this in my idea of heaven until now) dont know what changes have gone on here but i am qualified after all these years of patronising Langdale to have an opinion-i am shocked to the core-in fact quite-no-very upset that my bubble has been burst without as much as a sorry.

We had an overnight stay at the Langdale. We arrived on the Saturday afternoon at 3pm. Checked in but disappointed with the location of the rooms. Fortunately the weather was good or we would have been drowned walking to our room. We had what looked like a state of the art bathroom.....but no power when we showered. We mentioned this to the hotel manager. She didn't offer to send somebody to look at it either. We dined in the Terrace Restaurant that evening. Our starter and main course were very good. I then ordered a dessert......half an hour later we were still waiting so we vacated our table. Our breakfast the next morning was excellent. The staff couldn't do enough for us and were all very attentive....full marks to them! On checking out we reminded the manager again that we weren't happy with our shower.....she didn't offer an apology. We also told her about our wait for dessert which never arrived.....she said she would have a word with the restaurant. We weren't offered any compensation. At the least we thought a complimentary beverage would have been offered. We enjoyed our stay but it definitely wasn't worth the final bill!

Room Tip: If you can afford it book a deluxe room in the hotel or you will have a walk to your room.

We originally booked two nights but liked it so much we booked another night. We had a Fellside room, very comfortable, though parking is limited and some spaces give little room for maneouvre. Pool and spa very clean and also recommended. We had a very good meal at Purdeys, and another evening we ate in the Terrace Resturant - also good with friendly service. We did think about eating at Wainwrights Inn but it was very crowded, noisy, hot and stuffy so walked in and walked out. We found the hotel very convenient for touring the area and for local walks (available from the reception desk). We would certainly return again.

My boyfriend surprised me just before Christmas with a short stay at the Langdale. It was Amazing. The room was so comfortable and spacious. My boyfriend requested the room he wanted that he had seen on their website and the staff were very accomodating.

We didnt know the area, but the hotel staff made sure we knew where to go. We had a breakfast in Purdy;s Restaurant which was brilliant, and the surrounding countryside topped the stay of nicely!

We had 3 lovely nights at the resort. The room was brilliant - lovely large thick towels and bathrobes, comfortable large beds, breakfast was delicious. We were taken on a local walk around the resort that took about 3 hours with some of the most breathtaking scenery. Staff were very helpful at all times. We dined at all of the restaurants I am still dreaming of the food I had at Purdey's restaurant. The children loved the indoor swimming pool.
